Forums - Gaming - Gaming this Generation... Is this really what we call fun?

Im a horrible gamer. I play like 2,3 hours a week ! If im lucky i squeeze in some online Halo3 . Im always at my job -IM ALWAYS ON THIS SITE AT WORK - and at school early in the morning , but nevertheless i loved alot of games this Gen especially PS3 titles (Valkyria,MGS4) .
But i still have no reason to love a PSN game , and will never purchase another one until im given a very good one.

Personally, I haven't enjoyed gaming so much since the days of the PS1. The only thing I find annoying is some games which take ages to develop ala FF XIII.
Having said that it appears 2009 will be even better than last year.

Yes.

yeah....so I know you put alot of work into this but I'm gonna have to be honest and say I couldn't disagree with you more AT ALL. And the fact that you stereotype 360 gamers as "the Xbox lured them back with promises of Spike-TV style violence and hyper masculenity. Guns, guts and glory are the standard of the day and if a game doesn't feature a thick necked male archetype for them to project themselves upon or a sexy scantily clad woman for them to drule over then the game is almost certainly doomed to failure."

Thats just lame man. And to be honest you come off as ignorant and self important when you generalize people like that.

then go play Mount and Blade

It isstil lwar but with awesome gameplay !!!

Time to Work !

I'm enjoying this gen a lot.

puh lease

this generation has by far been the BEST!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

See the only problem that some people are having with this generation is that the titles are all split amongst three separate consoles.

There is some excellent titles on the 360 and some excellent titles on the PS3 and some excellent titles on the Wii. In past generations, there was maybe a handful of good games on one system and a whole plethora of good games on the other.

So the choice was simple. Casual, Hardcore, Racing, RPG, FPS, TPS, Platformer, Action Advtenture, etc were all on one system. (PS1/PS2 come to mind) with maybe a few scattered games across the different consoles.

Nowadays, each console has it's strengths and weaknesses more than ever before. (Specifically in regards to it's library of games)

The Xbox 360 has a lot of FPS, TPS, RPG , Hardcore games but it kind of lacks in the casual, platforming, adventure games.

The PS3 is similar to the 360 but it has some more casual games (Flow, Flower to name a few) and has more action adventure and platform titles.

The Wii is somewhat unique, Although many would say it lacks the traditional 'hardcore' games. It has the standard Nintendo games and tons of Casual types of games. It lacks in FPS,TPS games primarily.

Each console has must own games. (360 - Halo 3, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Braid, Castle Crashers, etc)(PS3 - Little Big Planet, Uncharted,Metal Gear 4, Resistance, Kill Zone 2, Flower, etc) ( Wii - Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Brothers, Mario Kart, Metroid, Wii Sports, etc). And many of these must own games are all drastically different and unique.

This is very un-settling for many people. This is why the fanboy wars rage on day after day. What people don't realize is that the fact that the fanboy war is raging on so hardcore. Just shows how comparable and similar (In terms of fun) all three systems are. In years past, a vast majority of people were like well if you want to play the best games go own a PS2. Nowadays, it's like if you want go play the best games? Go own a PS3/360/Wii/PC. Just a tough pill to swallow for people who can't or don't own them all.

For myself, personally, this is the most fun I've ever had in any console generation. Of course, I'm typical of the 'lapsed' console gamer that Nintendo hoped to win back with the Wii.

The fact that my laptop (and only PC) can't run any modern PC games also contributes I guess, but I love my Wii and have a ton of fun with it.

My DS has a huge backlog of great games. This gen is quite fine even if we only had the DS.

This game alone would justify the Wii for me: http://media.wii.ign.com/media/828/828151/imgs_1.html
