Forums - General - Me and my dimwit cousin are having a debate... (Marvel Universe related)

So he thinks that the Silver Surfer, Thor, Firelord, or Drax are no match for the Hulk. He has this incredible hero worship over the Hulk, thinking that the green monster will just get stronger the more damage he takes, thereby making him impossible to beat.

I think this is an exaggeration of the Hulk's strength. I believe there is a very definable limit to the Hulk's strength as well as the amount of punishment he can take. Aside from that, the Silver Surfer, Thor, and Firelord are beyond human powers as they are cosmic entities.

1.) The Silver Surfer especially can travel at (faster) than the speed of light, and possesses Power Cosmic, which can literally just blast the Hulk (as well as the entire planet that he's standing on) to pieces. This is actually a no contest, but my cousin insists that the Hulk can't be destroyed even by that.

2.) Thor possesses a similar type of blast as the Surfer, made through hurling Mjolnir with a thunderstrike. These blasts are light based, and thus are impossible for the Hulk to dodge or resist, as the Hulk, though superhuman, still possesses a heart, which will undoubtedly stop when exposed to an extremely high electrical voltage.

Aside from this, Thor has, in his warrior frenzied state, defeated both Drax the Destroyer (who possessed the Power Gem at that time) and the Hulk at the same time (he hurled the Hulk from space all the way to Earth).

3.) Firelord's power isn't limited to just fire. He was also a one time herald of Galactus, which means he also possesses Power Cosmic, maybe to somewhat a lesser degree than the Surfer, but it's still enough to blast the Hulk away.

On the other hand, my cousin insists on a couple of movies that illustrate some things that are completely different from what we know in the comics.

1.) In "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer", the Surfer was very easily stripped of his power when his board was stolen, making him basically powerless without his board, but we all know that this is complete nonsense when compared with the Surfer in the comics.

2.) In a couple of animated short films featuring the Avengers vs. the Hulk, Thor is shown to be completely no match against the Hulk, and even the entire Avengers squad had difficulty taking him down. This of course, doesn't really make much sense against the comics.

3.) Another animated short film direct to video called "Hulk vs" pits the Hulk against the entire army of Asgard, destroying pretty much everything in his path, defeating both Thor and Loki at the same time effortlessly, and even forcing the mistress of hell to send him back to Earth. The justification here was that Bruce Banner was removed from the Hulk, thereby freeing the beast to exhibit maximum power.

What do you guys think?

I think you mean "my dimwit cousin and I."

My guess is both you and your cousin have not been laid anytime in recent history.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

You do realise this is fiction, yah???

Anyway, the hulk is not the best superhero, everyone knows that Jesus could kick his ass.

why is everyone posting stuff here that is completely outside the topic? i mean, if you don't like marvel, don't even click the bloody thing. there's no need to shower insults on me just coz i like comics.

Nah, we're only joshing I think... OK I'll make an on topic comment. I think that the incredible hulk can be beaten by the silver surfer, but he can also be beat by thing from the fantastic four.

Wolverine still owns the Hulk and every other Marvel character

no, there's concrete proof that thing can't beat the hulk.

thing got the crap beat out of him by Champion (a cosmic entity). it wasn't even a contest. thing just got thrown from pillar to post for three rounds.

on the other hand, thanos, while trying to acquire the power gem from Champion, said that "Champion's strength is unbelievable, almost parallel to that of the hulk". (we can trust thanos in this regard)

so thing and hulk are pretty far away in the power department.

actually the wolverine thing is really strange.

he can hang with the hulk no problem, but there's no way he can beat anyone who uses energy (especially electricity, which would make him useless against thor... we all know metal conducts electricity really well).

i guess it's just that the hulk only uses blunt attacks, so that his body can regenerate against concussions, while energy based attacks would make his regeneration a non factor.

Wolverine will still win, he's Wolverine
