Forums - PC - Valve: Left4Dead has sold 2.5 million at retail

Yea, 2.5 million just at retail. Since there were times when Left4Dead on Steam could be found for around $30, I really wish Valve would reveal sales of games on Steam.

Via Kotaku

"Left 4 Dead has been hanging around the charts for months now, like a...well, like a zombie hanging around a shopping mall. But how many copies has it sold in that time?

Speaking today at GDC, Valve revealed that it's sold 2.5 million copies at retail. Note, that's at retail. So GameStop, Amazon, that kind of thing. It does not include sales figures for Valve's own Steam service (which are top secret), so really, the number will probably be much, much higher.

Still. They're just the icing on the cake. 2.5 million is impressive enough on its own."

So is this in line with VGchartz figures?

Why has it always been so undertracked here, its constantly getting adjusted.

Steam sales must be huge.

2 million for 360 version is in line with NPD.

EDIT: Wrong forum. Those numbers include the 360 version.

@ seece

It seems VGChartz hasn't tracked sales of the PC retail version:

But based on this comment though and VGChartz data (if correct) it can probably be assumed that by far most retail sales took place for the 360. The PC seems to be getting really weak at retail stores.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

I know they include the 360 version, but I associate Valve with PC so thus it's here.

Now if they would just let us know how much it's sold on Steam.....
