if its FPS i start with Hard and RPG by default

this is exactly why i do hard first. It really gets you to play the game extremly well very fast. At least for me. Makes you adapt right off the bat. When I play a game on medium then bump it up my mind is already use to old strategies I used and it takes me much longer to get the hang of it.

Normal first then if I like the game a lot or really good at it then I try hard.

Start on the lowest initially available difficulty, then work my way through the ranks. I've paid for the game, so I'm gonna get my money's worth.
