Forums - Nintendo - Can i "borrow indefinately" Virtual Console games from friends now?

Can't i just copy games off of others peoples wii's and play them on my own forever now?

Data can be copied to the SD card so we'd both still have it....

?????

no. the game is temporarily copied from the SD card to your Wii, I'm positive part of that process would include checking to see if your Wii owns that game.

Essentially all Nintendo did was automate the process of copying the game from the SD card for you and then deleting that temporary file.

Granted, i really like the solution as it makes it near perfect. Only "complaint" would be the little bit of time it takes for the game to load. Obviously it now takes a bit longer than when the game was already on the main menu, i.e. in wii's memory, but I can live with it.

I believe there's a special encryption on the data in the SD card that makes the games only playable on a specific Wii system.

yeah i figured..nintendo isn't that stupid

Doubt it. That be nice though. There's a few games my friend has that I'd like to play but not own and vice versa. But they'd miss out on a lot of money that way.
