Forums - Nintendo - DSi = DS?

Why are these numbers added together. The DSi is not a DS. They are two different consoles. There is the dual touch screen that mean that DSi specific games will not work on the DS or DS Lite. The DS and DS Lite are the same, they just look a little different. They still play the same games. By the logic of adding the two of them together, we can say that the PlayStation has sold 360 million, The X-Box has sold 50 million, and the NES has sold 190 million. All of the newer versions of these consoles are just upgrades as well. Why not put all the number together? I'm just saying the DSi is a new console and it needs to be separated from the DS sales. When the PSP2 is released are you going to add those numbers to the current PSP? I don't think so. Therefore, quit putting number together just because there is an "i" instead of a "2."

DSi does not have two touch screens. Also it is not a new console. It is an update to the DS.

Do we split numbers for PSP1000, 2000, 3000, and 3001, too?

Your argument is built on the misconception that Nintendo Man just disproved. The DSi is an update that still plays DS games. If the system required a new format of software, it would then be a different system.

Now the DSi does include downloaded games which is a new feature, and these games clearly cannot be played on a DSlite, but they still both play the same DS cartridges.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I could have sworn the orignal announcements stated that it had two touch screens. If not, I guess my complaint is invalid. I know there are currently no exclusive DSi games, but with two touch screens (which I thought it had), there would be. I think if they can make a game that will play on the DSi but not the DS, the numbers need to be separated (not inclucing downloadable games). Assuming you are correct and the only hardware change is the camera, then I am mistaken. It would then just be an updated version of the console.

People like to slant facts in favour of the own theory, but sometimes they slant the very same facts to prove another theory, that contradicts the first one =)

For instance,
DSi - lame and useless update, basically nothing new, DS = DSi.

and

DSi is a completely new system, split DS and DSi sales, DS != DSi.

Make up you mind already!

//BTW DS\DSi situation is very much like GB\GBC. Usually those two are put together, so same goes for DS\DSi.

Yes it is only the camera. And there's no GBA Slot anymore. But the Hardware itself stayed the same, so it's just an update.

Yeah. I do not like the fact that GB and GBC number were put together. I don't know how many games there were, but I remember I had a game called "V'Rally '99." It would only play on the GBC. When I put it into my fatty GB, it said the game could not be played. That is what I thought was happening with the DSi. If that were the case, I would still say they need to be separated.

Actually... The hardware has actually changed... The DSi has double the processing power of the DS and DS Lite.

However they are the same system with the same games and perhaps the DSi versions of some games will have features that the DS Lite can't use but they're still the same system for all intents and purposes.

Well the newer PSPs have improved perfomance too.

DSi should still be counted as a DS, it is really like the difference between an online and not online home console, or like when you buy a web camera for your Xbox, or the PSeye... do you count it as a new system now you can download games and use a camera?
