Forums - Gaming - Stranglehold the first major bomb?

$30 Million.......Blockbuster this holiday according to Midway? Are they out of their fucking mind lol. So much competition, its insane, and a game like Strangehold doesn't have near enough Hype nor solid press to get there.

That said, the game should at least break even at 1 Million Copies, and I do think it'll have pretty decent legs this holiday season.

Like Legend said, all these companies thought PS3 and X360 would have huge userbases right now and that they'd be quick to market with such a monstrous game only to find out the install base is lacking and they are sharing the field with a dozen or 2 games with mega budgets, not just their own.

While it won't crash the market, it's going to sting several of them pretty hard.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Sony are definitely helping people financially. They have helped S-E, Konami, Ubisoft, Epic, Level 5 and have provided tech support for EA, Activision and Midway.

Sony and MS realize that they need to support 3rd parties through these expensive development costs and help lower production costs.

Reviews don't effect game sales as much as some people are claiming.

360 version will outsell the PS3 version for sure.

About Midway going bankrupt, there is this little game called Unreal something coming out soon from the makers of Gears of War that says otherwise.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Ir wont have to much trouble doing 1 million in sales lifetime and thats enough.

Ummm....Unreal can only sell so well on the PS3, even with a great attach rate of perhaps 33% thats only about 600,000 Copies given the current Install base of the PS3. Will be tough to even break a Million.

I love the Unreal series of games, but I think its a mistake for them to have delayed the Xbox 360 version for now.

33% = 1.4 million sales

Resistance -  1.6 million - 37% attach rate.

Think uber super graphics and great gameplay + xmas sales rush.

 Also UT3 is a  PC/ Ps3 release.

UTIII should do fairly well on the ps3 even though its on the PC as well.... christmas rush should help it alot..

For it to be the first major bomb, Lair and the Darkness would have to not bomb.

I thought the demo was quite mediocre... but a few others in that thread seemed to enjoy it.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

It's true the lack of games for the PS3 this xmas will help out the PS3 games sell more. Which I'm sure 360 developers are realizing that they'll have problems this xmas.

So far for the 360 I'm thinking of skipping on Ace Combat 6, Assassins Creed, Eternal Sonata, and Blue Dragon.

I would of also passed on GTA 4 and Haze if they would of came out before xmas.
