Forums - Nintendo - Malstrom about Nintendo GDC

And wasn't the focus on Wii downloadable games? I don't think they even mentioned downloadable DS games. But a good guess on his part nonetheless.

I agree. We barely got 2 or 3 DSiWare games, so this guy wasn't really right at all was he? Nintendo didn't focus like a laser on downloadable DS games, it was a lot more of Wii (SD support, FF 1-6 VC, Darklord game, Arcade VC, Rock Climber etc). Seems Nintendo is really pushing online Wii.

# of games above 75 on Metacritic (including downloadable):

360: 241     DS: 144

PS3: 152     PSP: 126

Wii: 85

Well they certainly did push downloadable content, although it seemed much more heavily leaned towards the Wii then for the DS. Storage solution announced/implemented, New WiiWare titles announced, Arcade games added to Virtual Console, Balance Board centric WiiWare game Vs. A couple of DSi games.

Iwata's keynote seemed focused on presenting the most economically affordable and low risk avenues for developers. (On systems his company makes) Probably why there were Retail DS games announced but none for the Wii, since even though making Wii games is relatively cheap, DS games are far cheaper still. He also talked about the downward spiral some companies get caught in, and talked about Miyamoto's process involving small groups of people.

I liked this piece!

Tease.

The Wii is never ready. Miyamoto is kidnapping, dressing up as a gangster cowboy and starting a whole lot of small research teams but he obviously isn't finishing anything.

Well Keighley is still saying, the days best news is tonight at 6:30, mutiplatform and ITS NOT Zelda Wii.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

It's not spooky, they said that they'd be discussing this heavily beforehand...

Of course it is explainable, I hope no one believes that Malstrom is a real soothsayer, but it is still impressive how confdently he referred to this future event ar the source of his post.

Just like his 2006 "How Wii Won" article.

Or his 2008 "How Obama is losing"  Err....   Well, anyways.
