Forums - Nintendo - GDC: Wii gets SD card upgrade

yes, you can load games directly off your SD card and apparently it was demonstrated and worked rather seamlessly.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Terrific! Thank goodness it wasn't that horrible "solution" we thought we heard last year.

Okami

To lavish praise upon this title, the assumption of a common plateau between player and game must be made.  I won't open my unworthy mouth.

you can also buy games and save them right to the sd card off the wii shop channel!

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

The Wii just went from the worst console storage to arguably tied with the PS3 as best. 32gb SD cards make MS's overpriced HDs look like even more of a ripoff than they already were.

XBL: WiiVault Wii: PM me  PSN: WiiVault

PC: AMD Athlon II Quadcore 635 (OC to 4.0ghz) , ATI Radeon 5770 1GB (x2)

MacBook Pro C2D 2.8ghz, 9600m GT 512 iMac: C2D 2.0, X2600XT 256

32GB is more than enough to last this entire gen.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

wow.....i spoke too soon on that thread i made. this solution is pretty good. So, to be clear. You can load them off of the SD and you don't have to make room on the Wii for it.

Is it in the UK yet I am not at home so can't look

If I understand it correctly, this is basically the case, with one caveat: there has to be enough space on the Wii for the game to run in the first place, so in order to play the 300 block title from your SD card, there must be 300 blocks on your Wii. Not a big issue, mind you. Also, I could be wrong here: would someone let me know if I am please?

you are correct

i reset mine up tho cus of the new menus, now all games on the sd (20 pages of spots too on it, so if you back up channels, you can hide em in the back) so on the wii theres tons of free memory.

it looks really insane seein my wii with 1200 blocks free

but yeh seperate menu for games, and channels now, so wii space is no problem
