I'm agree with this article : PS3 is a fail in this generation. Good luck with the PS4 ( if they continue...)

As an owner of both the PS3 and the Dreamcast I can say that calling the PS3 the Dreamcast of this generation is an insult to the Dreamcast. That being said I agree with many of the points in the article and I'd love to see the PS3 turn things around.

PS3 is nothing like the dreamcast. When dreamcast came out...things it offered couldn't be experience anywhere else. The amazing visuals, online, plethora of AAA games, ease to develop for...which lead to homebrew and emulation

As a gamer I don't see much diffrence between what ps3 and 360 offer and ps3 was late to the party and is more expensive. Those 2 basically copied each others busines model (with ps3 doing most of the copying) while DC was an innovator ona ll levels and well ahead of the curve.

Also, if sega had 1/4 of the funds sony sunk in to the ps3, Dc would have spanked all consoles last gen. Sega was losing 300 mil a year in 2000 and 2001 and they almost went out of business. Sony was losing over 4 times as much a year or 2 ago and that is with the PS3 + 2 other profitable platforms.

I think PS3 is the the Trojan Horse of the console war!

I bought the new issue of Play magazine (the US Play Magazine that is a multiconsole mag and the direct descendant of America's greatest videogame magazine ever -- Diehard Gamefan and not the UK's Play Magazine which is a Playstation only mag), and in the latest US Play, they have an extensive section where each of the magazine's editors list their three favorite and least favorite trends that they see in gaming going into 2009. And in her section Heather Anne Campbell says this:

"#5 (best thing): The Playstation 3 becomes the new Saturn.

"The people who love the PS3 can already feel it happening. The PS3 is going to become this generation's Saturn/Dreamcast, a place where hardcore loyalists carve out a corner for games that will stand the test of time as true classics. We might like games on the 360, but we'll love games on the Playstation. The PS3 already has the prerequisite for being the long term darling of this generation: geeky tech fetishism. Think of the Dreamcast. Think of the NEO-GEO. Too advanced for their time, too daringly technical . . . these systems were home to some of the best games ever made."

Another PS3 is not doomed thread

Interesting article all the same.

Why exactly would people want that phrase to stop? The Dreamcast is looked back by most people to be a practically flawless console for it's entire lifespan where great games were plentiful and innovations ran aplenty. Christ, you could only hope when people look back on the PS3 they remember it as fondly as people remember the Dreamcast now. DC is the unfuckwitable console.

What you say is true to an extent. However it seems that when "most" people compare the ps3 to the dreamcast they do so in a different context. And that is to say that it is in last place and a failure in terms of sales.

It would be nice if more people focused on the positives as opposed to the negatives.

PS3 is this gen's PS3....
