Forums - Gaming - Why does everyone seem to think that any M-rated game is wrong for the Wii?

Nintendo has made an family friendly image for itself, when games that overshoot with their violence are seen as "twice as bad".
GTA:CW drugdealing is about the same level "bad" as GTA4:s drunk driving, but CW is on family friendly platform and therefore is worse.
Madworld has excessive amount of gore, but the motorsaw in Gears of War had it too. Despite Gears of War causing loud noise due to violence, it wasn't as bad as it wasn't on family friendly platform.
In any case, the only problem is the parents don't keep track of the games their kids play or the games that parents buy for their kids.

This is pretty much it.  Nintendo has created an image of the Wii and games that don't fit that image shock some people.

@Procrastinato: Some games would do better on PS360 when judging by raw sales, but it doesn't mean they'd do better financially. Also the not crowded market makes it possible to make games with lower budget to try out new consepts.

For the most part, I agree.  I think the scales tip so far in the PS360 direction, with regards to investment/return, that it makes more sense to put mature games on those platforms, in general, but obviously if there's a genre opening on the Wii, or if a game can be done for much less on the Wii, then the Wii is a viable option as well.

I'm just putting forth the obvious -- demographics are the reason there are more M-rated games on the PS360 than the Wii.  There's still room for M-rated games on the Wii -- just not as much.  The thread title "...any M-rated game is wrong for the Wii" is pretty black-and-white -- the problem is much more gray, by nature.

there has been plenty of M rated games on the Wii.... Madworld just happend to get caught in the crosshairs...

@Procrastinato: Well demographicwise that would be true, but demographics are largely defined by the games on the platform and on PS360 side, the competition hurts sales. Madworld came just out, The Conduit is next one coming, Redsteel 2 should be out sometime and other the type of games that are released are making the demographic stronger, which will lead into more sales.
If we think how Sega will benefit from Wii demographics is, that if Redsteel 2 with WM+ support (it really has a lot of potential) gets people in droves running to Wii, due to lack of competition, Conduit and Madworld may be the next titles on the purchasing list for the people.
Also, since Wii audience expands beyond the people who bought the console, there's big potential to have a huge hit if you're willing to try things out. If we make an assumption that half of Wii Fit sales was to non-single women or single mothers, it means that there's potential for atleast another same sized demographic on Wii that just needs to be untapped. If women are the users, it's likely that the console is in the livingroom TV instead of kids room or a dark corner somewhere.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Is it just me or is this type of system-choice bashing is almost exclusively reserved for the Wii (among consoles and more generally for Nintendo products for those following the GTA on DS release debate)?

Not at all since we see it all the time with third-party JRPGs on the 360.  People will argue that they shouldn't be on there solely based on sales without taking into account that Microsoft may have moneyhatted for the gamesor the plan is to make them multi-platform or whatever.

I've seen the Madworld commercial 3 times now. It clearly states it's a Wii exclusive at the end too.

Anyways, the only people who think it's wrong are fanboys. If you want a game that's exclusive to a system you don't have, then you'll have to buy that system. Complaining about it won't do anything, as we've seen how well the petition to keep Devil May Cry 4 a PS3 exclusive worked. Oh wait, it didn't.
