Forums - Nintendo - No hard drive until Wii HD

It's quite obvious that they are going the SD route. Look at DSi.

Don't know what's taking them so long to update the Wii to support SDHC.

There won't be Wii HD.

Stay tuned for GDC. High time they really clarified the storage solution anyway, and set a date.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

IMO the best solution is simply to enable the use of External USB HDD. It's the cheapest option per GB.

With all the talk about expanding into the Nintendo TV channel and movies and all that this seems to be the only sensible solution.

The reason why they haven't done this yet is beyond me.

Correct.  Their next console won't have the Wii Moniker and adding HD at the end of the new name would just be silly.

Though they have stated several times back in 2006/2007 that their next home console will be HD.

The SD card is already built in.  Why ignore such an elegant solution for something that is bulky, not very portable and less secure than the SD card solution?

True you get more GB per dollar via a HDD but it isn't like SD cards are expensive either.

i have like 50-60 VC games.....i would burn up that 2g drive up and I have like 5 wii ware games. Unless Nintendo has said something, I wouldn't be suprised to see Nintendo just improve the current Wii. Kind of like the DS improvements with maybe slightly better tech and cutting edge motion technology. If they come out with a new console with the next 3 years, they could really hurt themselve imo. seriously, people are just now able to get their hands on one. This gen has proved that there is a "graphic cap". With that being said, i don't see why they wouldn't do revisions, but i on a side note....i read that some dev said they were already preparing for wii 2. Think of this. Wii HD, with WM+ already built into the controllers.

What VC game are they is the question.

you can fit close to 100 NES games onto the Wii internal memory, SNES games it's more like 60-70..... and that's just the internal Wii memory which I am estimating to be around 400MB

Actually come to think of it isn't there a 40MB limit on Wiiware games?... and some of them are over 300 blocks... so if they are truely under 40MB with 300+ blocks then the actual free memory might only be 256MB or something. (there are about 2200 free blocks)

So having 2GB extra memory on top of that would essentially be 9 times the free space.... that could probably fit almost everything you can currently download on.

if ytou have channels you definetly cant, right now with 11 channels, i can fit 3 neo geo, 1 n64, 7 or 8 snes, and some nes games

on my sd i have about 30 more games, that to play i need to delete things and reorder my harddrive

i love nintendo, but any defense of the wii memory is just fanboy love, brutal design flaw

Yes the channels take up a lot of space (11???... I assume you are including the non-removable ones in that) but What I am saying is IF it were possible to use SD cards aspart of the main memory, or IF the Wii had 2GB of it, then you could fit as much as you want without worry.

if they actually do that, it will be awesome.

i thought you meant as is, is ok, which its not

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

All I am asking is what exactly is wrong with doing it? Who is asking them to ignore SD? What is so wrong with a simple basic upgrade so I can use my USB 300GB with my wii and enjoy my photos on TV without having to transfer them to SD first?

Basically there is no good reason why they don't do it (at least from what I've heard so far).

Bulky? It is a 2.5" External drive. How on earth can that be bulky next to the tiny wii. Together they make a far less footprint than any other console.

Portable? I don't intend to walk around with it my pocket.  Isn't that what the SD card for?

Less secure????         ????????????

It's like I said, no proper reasons.

Bulky - A think an external HDD is just a tad larger than an SD card.

Portable - See above.

Secure - Built in DRM.

well, Nintendo needs to come up wiht a solution none the less. especially since DLC is becoming the future.

also....what is DRM ......D R Memory

I say utitlize the USB, but they won't do that unless they have their own hard drive to sell you

DRM is digital rights management.  Basically, it's where publishers take away your basic rights to copy, etc...
