i wonder how many law suites will be filed against the 360 for faulty hw :s the rrod, this and e74 are being looked into or pursued!

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

I know that if i got a 360 (which is possible) and the disks got scratched while the console was not being moved then i would be less than impressed and demand them to be replaced since it was the faulty console's fault! With all these problems i find it surprising that the console is still selling so well... |
It's important to note, that NONE of the new 360's they tested had any problems on any tests.
There must have been an issue with older models as that issue has now gone.
I think it's terrible that M$ do not help people who have had a problem with the first models.
If you buy now your fine. It's really the release consoles.

nope, was on bbc one (main channel in UK if you dont know) last night 23.3.09 so this is still an occurence. There must be something wrong with older xbox 360, mayb microsoft should have something in place for them similar to rrod warranty. Good to see the the first family aren't fanboys lol. They've got all 3 consoles. |
Dont get me wrong, M$ should own up. But let's not cherry pick. It is NOT still an occurrence. That would indicate new models. It's something wrong with release models that are somehow still surviving ( HOW?)
Maybe older drives can also still make their appearances with refurbished 360s?

There is a problem. It's the idiots that are moving their consoles when they are on with a disc in the drive.
/thread.
(the difference between the old\new consoles is that the drives like the Benq\Lite-on in the newer consoles have rubber "bumpers" so when the discs are placed vertically they will not scratch when moved).
This still doesn't change the fact that this scratching only ever happens if the owner of the 360 is such an idiot as to move it when the disc is spinning. Watchdog along with the BBC in general can kiss my ass. They're website is fantastic but they're TV reporting is an abomination, especially in tech related fields - the reporters don't have knowledge of modern technology or have a clue what they are reading of the autocue.
Anyone watched "Click" on News 24?
I rest my case.

This is only due to the fact they are using newer disc drives. They still selected the wrong disc drives to use period. Nintendo and Sony have proper drives making it so that discs cant be scratched even with massive movement. |
What do you mean by massive movement? Anyway, I actually have moved (physcially moved the console from one place on the shelf to another) my console with a disc spinning in the and it was not scratched. My console is placed horizontially, but I do not know it that makes a difference. Then again, I do not have a launch console so the problem may not be present anymore.
The thing about RROD is that it opened up MS to all sorts of attacks with problems that are not even that widespread. E74 and the disk scratching may be blown out of proportion because of what happened with RROD.
Microsoft replaces scratched discs. My friend got 2 games replaced for free. I think they may have changed it to charge like $10 for a replacement, but that's more than fair considering people could call and lie to them to get a cheap game disc.
And yes this is very old news. If the BBC is just now covering it (again) it is likely a followup to show the newer models are improved and to gain some more viewers over the whole controversy.
my friend had that problem, ive never had any issues though
