Forums - Gaming - CryEngine3 Trailer Released

I loved the part at 0:42-0:53 with the pine tree forest til that water fall. Lovely. I want an RPG with those grafix and same setting.

The improvement isn't too large. There still is one though. Are they using the engine for something not on an island? Just asking cause of the beginning of the video shows a city setting.

Doesnt seem a lot better than Crysis Warhead .. or any better at all. Hmm ..

this engine is for PS3 and X360(it's the crysis engine for consoles)

Really? I thought its main focus was to be a new engine, and not cryengine for consoles.

For all those saying this can't be done on consoles, did you all forget this?

Crytek, who are best know not only for their great games (FarCry, Crysis), but their incredibly amazing game engines, have announced that they will be showcasing their next game engine, CryEngine 3 at this years GDC.

Crysis recently blew the gaming industry (as well as a couple of graphics cards) away with it’s incredible graphical capabilities, with the unfortunate side effect that not many gamers actually got to play it due to it’s demand for a high-spec PC rig.

These days, many gamers have switched to consoles for the simple reason that keeping up with the hardware requirements needed to play all the latest PC games can get out of control. Most of us just want a platform that allows us to just pop in a disc and know that we are going to play a game the way that the developers intended.

The problem with this is that Crytek’s games are usually quite special, and only available on PC, meaning that many console owners were unable to play their great games. Well, that’s all about to change now that the new engine will be catering for not only the PC, but the PS3 and Xbox 360 as well.

There is a little bit of an explanation of the engine and it’s, err, scalable computations, and stuff, so if you are interested, hit the link of the source at the bottom of the page and check it out for yourself.

March 23, 2009 - Crytek, the developer of Far Cry and Crysis, announced earlier this month that its in-development multiplatform game engine CryENGINE 3 would be shown off for the first time at Game Developers Conference 2009. Now it's GDC week and we've got an exclusive sneak peek at Crytek's CryENGINE 3 trailer.

According to Crytek, the trailer features both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 footage.

The video is meant as a tech demo only, so the fact that it features nanosuit-clad soldiers from Crysis running around doesn't necessarily mean anything concrete. It could just be that Crytek recycled some of its existing assets. No titles have been officially announced that will be built on CryENGINE 3 as of yet.

one thing is for sure this engine looks beautiful in lust environment(at the beginning of the clip, the gritty part did not look hot.)

what do you think SC?

It doesn't say that consoles is the main target of cryengine3. If that was the case I would have thought they would have named it something else other than CryEngine3.  Also it says that it features footage from the 360, and PS3 not that all the footage is on consoles. If all the footage was consoles, I would  be surprised, and maybe they should put that level of optimization into their pc engine. Also if that is the case hopefully they will show what they have been doing on their PC engine too.
