Forums - Gaming - Battle of the beasts PS1 VS SNES

I'm 28 and the winner is SNES all the way. Not to say the PS1 was bad it was awesome but never near SNES awesome.

Oh and I also wanna join in the movement against the blasphemy that is declaring Chrono Cross better than Crono Trigger. I had to force myself to finish Chrono Cross, I played Crono Trigger countless times.

You obviously didn't see my list up there. There are tons of games for Non-Mario fans out there.

NHL 94 and Stanley Cup on the SNES were pretty good by the way. You should try them out!

You know, just like genesis had tons of games for non-sonic fans. But whatever, you can think snes is better but I know it isn't. ;)

Nah, I stick with nhl 09. :)

There is a difference between you and me: I played all the games you've listed to me. I played all the games I listed in that other post too. I believe I know what I'm talking about here (no offense). o_O

Ah well, opinions are opinions, I guess.

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

I don't know what list are you talking about, but I have played more than enough SNES games to know which console is better.

And oh yes, opinions. You just declared that I can't possibly have an opinion that genesis is better. Gee...

I would say SNES because i remember more fun times i had then with the PS1 but its a very close tie.

What? You didn't read the whole thread? Man, what are we going to do with you? Here's the list for the lazy peeps! =P

And yes, I did say opinions are opinions. What's wrong with that? You said Genesis is better, OK. I'm just trying to show you a side of the SNES you didn't see yet!

I hope that made sense. @_@

The PS1 takes this...

PS1 IMO:

Grandia
Wipeout
Silent Hill
Tekken 3
Einhander
Persona 2
Driver 1&2
Xenogears
Ace Combat
Gran Turismo
Syphon Filter
Chrono Cross
Twisted Metal
Vagrant Story
Legacy of Kain
Dino Crisis 1&2
Metal Gear Solid
Resident Evil Series
Symphony of the Night
Three Crash Bandicoot games, all of which were awesome.
Final Fantasy VII-IX and Tactics were all awesome, VII best game ever made.

Back when Tony Hawk games were good!

I will add more as they come to mind.

@arius - PS1 is not even close to being my first console: Atari - NES - SNES - PSONE/N64 - PS2 in order before this gen.

Edit - How could I forget about Winning Eleven 3 & 4? Quite possibly THE two best soccer games ever made.

At the end of the day I have to give it to PS1.

It had much better games from Konami, games from Sega's library that SNES didn't like Lunar and Grandia and better games in more genres.

The PS1 was the fulfillment of what started on SNES when we first started to take notice of JRPGs. I will say that Final Fantasy VI was better than VII, but there were quite a few jrpgs we didn't get in the states on the during the SNES years the like of which really started flowing in on PS1 from 1999 until the end of the PS1's lifetime and then was carried on on PS2.

Since Microsoft is winning in America and Nintendo is catering to their new market we might enter a time when we won't see so many jrpgs in the future over here.

Heavens to Murgatoids.

PS1 had so many classics, i think thats where the win here lies...

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

For one thing, the PS1 is one generation more recent than SNES, so it is going to have better games simply from game concepts evolving. If you are talking about which games were better at the time of it's release, SNES wins easily. Graphics aren't everything, some people still argue that FF6 is better than FF7 today, which means that FF6 must have been spectacular when released compared to games at it's time.

The PS1 probably would not exist if the SNES hadn't. Most, if not all, PS1 games were based on concepts that were refined during the SNES era. You name me a PS1 game and I can probably name you a SNES game it took concepts from.

Simply put, games are more refined as generations go by, but they were more original in the past.
