Forums - Nintendo - "The Wii doesn't sell quality games" - Any examples to back this up?

@Demotruk
So the thread was about debunking "the Wii doesn't sell quality games" and you want to turn it into "Wii's third party games suck when compared to PS3 and 360"? :) Good luck with that.

I really don't care about the game's profit, but one thing:

Is it better to sell 1 million in one month and die off or 1 million in one 1 year or more?

It's better to sell it in 1 month. Chances are that the game will then be at full price the entire time, whereas the chances are that won't be the case with the other game.

I didn't say they sucked. I said they aren't particularly strong efforts. Nobody, aside from small publishers and of course Nintendo, has put their first string teams on the Wii yet. They have all put poor to fairly good efforts, and we see a range of success from that. Even the fans of CoD5 on Wii here will not try to say it was a stronger effort on the Wii than on the PS360. It was quite good, and it sold I believe because it was good, Shaun White and Guitar Hero sold excellently on Wii compared to their PS360 versions, but nobody is mentioning them yet. RE:UC is a pretty good spin off, but who would argue that it's the kind of effort that RE4 or RE5 were? Of course, that still sold pretty well.

The really strong efforts get dismissed because they're from Nintendo, the pretty good efforts get "but it didn't sell nearly as well as the HD version" even though some have done better, and the poor efforts (and niche games that may or may not do well for what they are) get "third party core games don't sell on Wii!".

Mario & Sonic is excluded because it has Mario in the title.

Sonic and the Secret rings is excluded because Sonic has been in a game together with mario, thus biasing reviewers.

Carnival games isn't a game. This thread is about games, go away with you and your non-games.

Simulacrum, what is it that your post is proving? That games that do poorly on metacritic can do well in sales? That not all games that do well on metacritic are commercial successes?

Lol @Oyvoyvoyv

It tells that even game with Metacritic 56 sells on Wii.
And if you have Sonic or Mario or WII on a tittle it will sell.
And I won't bring Okami to this, but look what kind of games sell on Wii and which dont.

Take my love, take my land..

Ok, those are things we all know and accept. The only difference between you and me is that I don't think those are bad games, just games that got reviewed
by a media that caters to a specific audience.

You won't bring Okami into this, that's interesting. Why not, because you already know that highly critically received games can flop on other consoles, such as the highly successful PS2?

Yep too bad for Okami. But Wii don't have that many quality titles as PS2 had.
Wii just don't have that many 80+ titles that you can say cleary.

Take my love, take my land..

I don't think No More Heroes is niche. What would make it niche? It seems to have many of the same qualities that make for the reason that many people enjoy Tarantino films and GTA games, and Tarantino's aren't considered to be movies that have only niche appeal and GTA, for its part, is one of the best selling game series of all time. On the 360, with all the hype OXM can give and all the advertising that would have been done for NMH during key tv programs like Monday Night Raw if it was a 360 game, No More Heroes would have sold 4 or 5 millions copies instead of 500,000. It has it all a cool lead character a beautiful new heroine great action. It would have made for a big 360 game as I said. And when the PS3 has an install base half as large as the Wii's there's no reason Uncharted should do close to 3 million while NMH does 500,000. The only reason would be if the Wii's primary audience is made up of the types of people that Nintendo fans don't like for us to say that it is.

Same with Madworld and House of the Dead both would have been over a million on 360 while they're going to be lucky to get more than 500,000 in the next year on the Wii.

I can understand how Okami can be too artistic of a vision for its sales own good.

I hope the Conduit does some good numbers or it could be a long drought for us other types of gamers on Wii until Nintendo feels obligated to bring out the next Mario and Zelda.

I also hope many of the best jrpgs they are going to have come over here and don't get unnecessarily slammed by certain sites with a lot of weight behind their review numbers.
