Forums - Sales - :( Valkyria Chronicles not even 100k on US

There is no way this game cost more then 20-30 million dollars to make. I mean I love it and all, but it certainly wasn't a break the bank blowout game.

If it sells 500k its certainly profitable and there will probably be a sequel of some sort. Most JRPGs sell less then that and many of the series are on their 5th iteration (look at Tales, that series never sells that well and yet they keep on making them).

L4D alone is closing in on LBP and R2 sales combined.

All the PS3 exclusive games combined on that list = 6.368m
Halo 3 all 3 sku's = 5.772m

ahh...... The power of Halo :)

Time to port to the 360!

And your point is?  Compare apples to apples, don't compare FPS sales to JRPG sales...then again you didn't even mention Valk chronicles so I don't even know why you said anything at all.

So all those hardcore JRPG fans that have a 360 can give Valk their support so it can sell Tales of Vesperia numbers?  Oh wait that would be less...

500K as profitable for a 20-30 million dollar game would seemingly go against what devlopers are stating.

I thought it was a cheap game too until Outlawaren told me they created a whole new engine for it.

no sequel in the works?
Is that why they are releasing new content?

Do I have to remind everyone that Tales is very popular in Japan?

http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/4386.html they're trying on the sales front. Already getting a budget re-release in Japan.

Even with a new engine, they had very limited scope outside the battle system. There were few cutscenes and those were animated (not expensive CGI), there wasn't much in the way of a map system much less a full world outside of battles which certainly saved on production as well. I mean even with a new from scratch battle engine I doubt it was anywhere near 40 or 50 million. Games like Mirror's Edge don't even cost that and it certainly took a LOT more work to make that game look and play the way it does.

I'm not saying games like Mirror's Edge are better (I do love mirror's edge though, so its close), I'm saying JRPGs are very cost effective since they are built for a market which sustains about 200-300k in sales even for pretty good games.

Well I mean... it's a battle about a war... so...

Any sequel would be in the vein of Fire Emblem where it's set either before or after the war...

and unlike most games today this game was good and actually made it's ending conclusive and self contained rather then the BS "Hey lets leave room open for a sequel even though this is a new IP... in fact lets not give a clear ending."

So if they did make a sequel it would take the storyline creators time to think up things...

What would it be about?

Set in the future with futuristic weapons?  Set in other parts of this world?  If so where?  And what are they doing?   Revolution in one country?  Set it in the past?  Use our weapons for Melee too?  Or maybe that great war?

Gotta keep the dev team working during it.  Doubt it will get a sequel though which is sad.
