Forums - Gaming - Future game flops?

Heavy Rain:You have a point.

Infamous: I disagree. It looks like something that would appeal to the mainstream. Also, the previews I read said almost nothing but good things about the game

Alan Wake:Can't make a good guess on this one since we don't know what the gameplay is like.

MAG will sell awesomely to the casually minded PS3 crowd and yes PS3 does have casual gamers that bought it as a replacement for their PS2/as a blu ray player, I know 3 people who fit that category, ALL cannot wait for MAG..

Whether it'll sell well to the more hardcore owners is tough to say.. over 200 players online says yes to me..

The others.. Not sure.. Perhaps one of this years GH games? seems like Activision are releasing too many of those..

 LOLOL

MAG : heavy online multiplayer = HARDCORE

end.

Wow...you guys are stirring CGI's nest quite hard.

Anyway, a flop in my eyes would be a game that is hyped all over the internet and whose sales fall short too short to make up the investment.

I'll be controversial and say that Punch out! will not be the big hitter some are making it out to be.

La Noire should be alongside Infamous, Heavy Rain as potential flops. Games we know very little information about is generally not a good sign for a game's quality. Most good games get hyped up a lot by the developers and media before they are released.

We know quite a bit about inFamous, and may I also point out that R* did not release images of gameplay of GTA IV until the weekend before release, but of course that is a different question

Anyway, LA Noire is certainly having a troubling development, and it was not mentioned on Take 2's last fiscal reports, so it will probably not be out until 2010

@ Munkeh111

We know quite a bit about inFamous

A lot has also been shown with regard to Heavy Rain, we know a lot more with regard to this than Alan Wake.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

Well we still don't really know how Heavy Rain is going to play, or really have a release date, but of course far more than Alan Wake

Other future game flops: StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3 I would not hold my breath on those two games. Delayed for ages, could mean there are issues regarding them. High expectations to live up to.

Star Craft and Diablo 2 were two of the best RTS of all time. It is like saying could World of Warcraft 2 could match the successful heights of the original World of Warcraft as a MMORPG?

What are you talking about?

Heavy Rain and Alan Wake better sell at least a million copies.

I think the upcoming Bionic Commando will flop. Noone seems to be interested in it.

It's funny that you are the only person on this thread that mentioned a multi-platform game.  I wonder why people seem to gravitate to console exclusives when they discuss potential flops?

I disagree that inFamous is getting a lot of hype.  In fact, it seems to be getting very little hype at all.  I think it will sell well, but not great.  If you wanted to judge potential exclusive flops based on hype I think you need to consider the Conduit, Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2, and Alan Wake.  These games are getting a lot of Internet attention.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.
