PS3 10 year plan?

Sony are stuck with 10 year plan.

It will take 8 to 10 years before Sony start to turn profit on PS3 - erase all  early losses on PS3 hardware. Billions of $US dollars (i will not say it may start a war) in losses on PS3 hardware and loss is still generated on every PS3 console sold. Sony are stuck with PS3 and Blu-Ray for a while. MS and Nintendo will both get head starts on Sony for next generation. MS two year head start - XBox 1080? released in 2012. Nintendo next system - Wii-HD? released in 2013. Next PS system - PS4 will appear in 2014.

MS lost $4 to 5 billion on XBox 1 so there is always light at the end of the tunnel. This generation MS have lost around $2 to $3 billion on XBox 360 but now are starting to turn profits on XBox game division. The extended three year RROD warranty cost MS $1 billion to implement.

I don't think Nintendo crows about including a controller with the console, so why should Sony do the same when out of the 3 current players its the least likely to achieve this goal, and if they achieve it the other consoles will too which kind of makes it pointless either way.

IF you mean that in 7 years they may still be selling it, and supporting it in a somewhat limited fashion I think it is *possible*. I'd still guess unlikely, but possible.

IF you mean it is the primary Playstation family console and can effectively compete with the newest MS or Nintendo machine because it is "future proof"...well then you've swallowed far too much of Sony's Marketing department's Kool-Aid.

if they really had a specific 10 year plan why don't they just tell us what it means? 10 year plan could mean so many things from making AAA titles to the system all the way down to only repairing the system. Sony is just going to do what's convenient for them when the time comes, that's all.

Sony will stick with the 10 year plan and ignore the competition. That would be great move by Sony. "PS3 has Blu-Ray player it will last 10 years it is competing against itself" future Sony PR spin.

The PS2 isn't $99 yet.

So you expect the PS3 to make up the 20+ million deficit between it and the Wii? Interesting. Interesting. You know it would be the first console in history, ever, ever, to do something like that.

We play Wii Play too. :D

 

Seriously though the PS3 has the tech to go the distance.
