Sony are stuck with 10 year plan.
It will take 8 to 10 years before Sony start to turn profit on PS3 - erase all early losses on PS3 hardware. Billions of $US dollars (i will not say it may start a war) in losses on PS3 hardware and loss is still generated on every PS3 console sold. Sony are stuck with PS3 and Blu-Ray for a while. MS and Nintendo will both get head starts on Sony for next generation. MS two year head start - XBox 1080? released in 2012. Nintendo next system - Wii-HD? released in 2013. Next PS system - PS4 will appear in 2014.
MS lost $4 to 5 billion on XBox 1 so there is always light at the end of the tunnel. This generation MS have lost around $2 to $3 billion on XBox 360 but now are starting to turn profits on XBox game division. The extended three year RROD warranty cost MS $1 billion to implement.
