gameplay 5 min from a demo made in late 2007

Why it i not point and click :

- u can control the movement of the arm directly with ur stick
- no cursor but interactive environnement
- no "dialogue screen" : u can talk during walking using gyroscopique control in a natural way
- full movement freedom in the house
- full interactive environnement with door (stated) fridge/room/box
- no game over
- many choice to do while playing allowing to "create" (modulate) the story

It is a bit more than just QTE + point and click ...

The way I see it, it's a modern way of point n' click gameplay (mixed with QTEs). It has such a limited freedom that many gamers will get pissed off and just wanna bang the controller against a wall out of frustration.

Anyway, you understand french so it's good you explain the details. I may be wrong, and I hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid gameplay will be very limited and "interactive movie-like". I love adventure games though, so for me it wouldn't be any problem. I would certainly buy this game if I had a PS3.

libellule, the girl will be in the game though, don't you think? I don't think they wasted all that time and energy and made her just for a demo.

but the theme of the game is downright confusing. i bet that half the people who rave about this game don't even know what it's really about, and that's already the internet population.

how do you expect the average gamestop/toys r us/blockbuster/etc. consumer to discern what its about?

You seem really bitter about this game.

Most of your complaints about this game could easily be applied to VC. Heavy Rain has a chance at being another great-quality game whose genre won't appeal to the mainstream crowd.

Would you still complain if this game had an anime style and the main character was some girl in a short skirt?

did i say that the game is bad?

did i say that the game is low quality?

did i say that the game sucks?

NO. i'm only speaking the truth about the sales that this game will get. even if its the best game ever made, it still won't make a million because it's a confused genre. nobody knows nor understands what it really is.

please learn to understand the posts that people make as they are and don't put words in between. i never said niche = bad. i never said that heavy rain would be a bad game. all i said was that the game will not sell well. that's all.

And who said anything about this "needing to save Sony"? You just posted unnecessary negativity about a game you must have no interest in....

I respect that you may not like it, but don't get on people's cases because they're excited about it...sheesh....

i never said i didn't like it. i'm probably going to play it in fact. and i never said it's not worth getting excited about.

READ my posts again. all i said was that its not going to sell well. that's all. i never made any remarks about the game's quality. i just said that it won't reach a million because it's a niche title.

don't just post based on your emotions about a specific game. read the post entirely before you reply, so that you don't unnecessarily make wrong assumptions.

==> well, at one moment, the girl is running with the camera behind her and the bad guy running after her and David Cage is stating "u are still control of the girl"

from min 20.12 to 20.20 :

"here, it is still Caroline that is controlling the character, it is her that is directing the character, even if she is touching all the environnement, this is Caroline that is playing and direct the character, this is not a cutscene"

so, at the end, I m not sure about what to expect for the control ...

libellule, the girl will be in the game though, don't you think? I don't think they wasted all that time and energy and made her just for a demo.

==> the guy really stated (not sure if it is in this video) that they wanted to hide everything about the real plot and that this demo is not the game, and, in my memmory, it included the girl character herself.

I have no idea how much time/money they have invested in the demo ... Perhaps, they can easly and quickly create "room/character" with their engine

Time to Work !

from the french preview :

Here is the demo of Heavy Rain on PlayStation 3 made by the Producer of the game at the Micromania Games Show 2008.

- Realism on modeling, a thorough work was done on the eyes of characters in particular.

- The demo features a young journalist who investigates the disappearance of several girls, she went to a taxidermist old suspected of the abductions. 2 possible scenarios for the same scene are available in this presentation.

- Film camera, not necessarily always the last character back but in the decorations.

- The demo is fully playable, even if it feels cinematic, the character is still controllable at any time.

- The Sixaxis (motion sensor) is used in the game for several actions (open a window, raise or strike an object, etc.)..

- You can hear what happens in the head of the heroin. Thoughts indicate the advantages and disadvantages facing the present situation, compared to alternatives.

- No loading times in the game!

- The sets are very realistic and detailed.

- Decorations fully interactive (objects, all the doors of the house can be opened, etc.)..

- Split screen system very interesting to keep an eye on the murderer, and his character at the same time.

- Several possible scenarios is the player to choose what to do depending on the situation. The player decides to tell his own story. You can replay several times the same scene, to see things totally different.

- Maintain multiple buttons to remain hidden, uncomfortable situation for the player to reproduce the realism of stress in the game

- Quick time events for some action scenes.

well she needs to get herself a brolly....lol....and i'd follow that bottom on any mystery she wantes to solve.....

heavy rain is exactly the sort of title that i'm interested in......so what if its a modern point and click.....good.....i never understand why there are not more mature games on the market.....involving emotions/relationships as side stories to the actual plot anyway.....i'm sure there are enough mature gamers in the world......

it seems like a mystery/thriller to me....surely there is room for every type of game......i don't mind boring, mellow and slow infact i enjoy it.....wandering around not knowing whats going on....in life and games....

it's certainly not a system seller who would think that....but i'd say it has a chance of reaching a million....i think your underestimating the audience....but not a massive smash hit of course.....

although one thing i do dislike and saw on the demo...is the up and down movement of the whole controller...why do they do that....i'd rather just press a button......but then thats just me i guess....

incidently i'm waiting for the HD quality real survival third person horror mature atmosphere game...where you don't have a billion regenerating enemies....where you have to properly look after ammo and guns(use wisely and when a mean mother is around)...rely more on your heavy melee....toe to toe abilities......actually live in a house in a creepy town with your own car, girlfriend, mother, father.sister whatever to keep happy and solve whatever mystery is going on......

i know it won't sell well but here's hoping....

                                                                                                                                        Above & Beyond

and if that's the case, i don't understand why you got so emotional about my posts.

all i said was that heavy rain won't sell well. that's all. and then you got all mad and stuff.

if you really don't care about sales, you wouldn't react this way to a guy saying it won't sell well.

We're just having a friendly discussion.

CGI-Quality, the chick in your sig, is that the same as in the demo? I mean she's not right? She is one who they had in a trailer over two years ago, while the chick in the demo is a new one.

i came in with truth, reality, and honesty. that's all.

a lot of people have been touting heavy rain as a system seller. it's the truth. internet hype has been saying that very thing. "this will save sony".

and i just mentioned that i'm only talking about sales because i want to PREVENT such statements from coming out.

that's all.

i just wanted to come out with the sales facts before some blind fanboy comes in and says that very thing.

i never said you said it.

i don't understand this defensive mode you have on right now. if you really don't care about sales, you don't need to react so emotionally about me saying it won't sell well because that's the fact of the matter.

so.. stop reacting to my sales predictions since you don't care about how many copies it will sell.

all i said about the system seller thing was "in case someone says it".. meaning to say, i wanted to prevent someone from actually saying it and thereby create unnecessary and false hype.

my entire statement is "heavy rain will not sell well" period. lets drop the subject from there.
