What the hell, let's do a thread waiting and theorizing for it to happen.

Not claiming it's inevitable, just really likely. What I do know is that we won't hear about it until either just before Nintendo reveals it or just at that time.

What will it be? New specs are unlikely unless it's to help things other than gamed themselves (no HD, which is likely waiting for the Wii's successor, and for HD to reach an appreaciable market share). Not sure if GC controller and memory card slots are safe, especially with GC games being ported to the Wii, but that would depend on if the redesign shrinks to the point those would be too big.

Any other thoughts?

I think the closest thing we'll see to a redesign in 2009 would be colours. That said, 2010 might see a redesign of having Motion Plus built in to the Wiimote.

Especially since even Nintendo said they're looking into that.

A redesign? I really don't think that would be neccassary... Possibly a redesign of the controllers to allow Wii MotionPlus built in and maybe a built in battery, higher quality speaker and perhaps a more powerful force feedback motor? or another one of the same intensity chucked into the Nunchuk :P

If Nintendo were to redesign the console.. They'd probably bump up the flash memory a little, perhaps redesign the Wii Menu but not drastically.. and maybe include DVD playback?

Also if you read really far into their comments on Japan's move to digital broadcasting, they could even build a set top box into the Wii so everybody could watch the new digital format through the little white box!
