Forums - Sony - Sony Freezing, Cutting Employee Wages.. (First Time in Company History)

I think that's a fair compromise. More people will be able to keep their jobs and like other have said employee won't just leave the company because of that. Bonuses are not a given and their chance to find another job is almost nill in time like these. I bet anyone would prefer this solution instead of facing unemployment, I know I would.

At least all levels of the business are receiving cuts.

In America, they'll just fire the "regular employees" while the top dogs keep their bonuses.

Sony Freezing, Cutting Employee Wages

Sony have, for the first time in company history, "mothballed" employee wages and bonuses in an attempt to stem the company's financial bleeding.

This means there'll be no wage increases over the next 12 months. For anyone, from the tea ladies all the way up to Sir Howard, and everyone (including the PlayStation folks) in between. Rank-and-file employee bonuses will also be cut by 33%, while managers will be faring even worse, seeing not only a 35-40% reduction in their bonus payments, but a 10-20% wage cut as well.

Not even the top brass will escape unscathed, with Nikkei reporting that "Executives will also be slugged with huge cuts to bonuses and salaries". Ah well. Remember, Sony, before things get better, you must suffer!

Plants need water

Look this is happening everywhere, its not indicative of Sony's gaming division at all. Still even the great untouchable god of tv and walkmans is fallible.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

at least they are cutting down everybody bonuses.

not like AIG.

One step closer to having their self-made robots running the company.

All Giant corporations are facing Financial hardship not just Sony.

Sony is facing more hardship than most companies though. Other than banks and car companies, I don't see anyone doing much worse than Sony.

AIG, General Motors, Chrysler are doing much worse.

aig lost over 60 billion dollars last quarter come on!.

and all japanese companies are doing cuts from panasonic to toshiba name it.

Well there goes the idea of playstation ever having a price cut in the next 12 months. What employee in their right mind would be happy with a company cutting there wage, then dropping the price of a product to sell it at a "Loss", and cover that loss with the "wage cuts".

Sony Boss: "Yeah I got an idea, Let's cut everyone's wages and bonuses so we can cut $100 off the PS3!!!"

Right Minded Sony Employee: "Great stuff... keep the fans happy... we employees don't need to eat."

Sony Boss: "Right that does it then. We'll announce the PS3 Price cut 1 week after we reveal the Employee wage cut."

It's me...  no really, it IS me!!!
