Forums - Sony - PS3 Hardware: Getting better or worse?

the ps3 improving overtime isnt just about the sku's. why not discuss the topic in full? since the release of the ps3 , there have been several new features as well as improvements via firmware updates. since launch the ps3 has received:s

divx playback and updates
an awesme photo album addition
HOME which has some awesome time killing games and events outside of just being a social gathering venue
ps life which is possibly the best world-wide news covering application i have seen

these are some of the major improvements on the ps3 since its release. i for 1 was pissed off having lost bc, but i made a big deal of it when the ps2 had it but never made any use of it. there is only 1 ps2 game i missed out on and that is yakuza2. so not having bc is no big deal for me. i didn't buy a next gen console to buy yesterdays games, but bought it to appreciate games of today and tomorrow.

hardware has gotten better in the new 80 GB ,,,,I know cause i own both 60 GB and a new 80 GB

the wireless connection is stronger(i get better connection test result when they are next to one another with the new 80GB) ,,,no blue tooth drop outs(improved the range),runs much much quieter than 60GB(it's almost silent now)

i know i mention software, but its the software which makes the hardware worth a purchase. the hardware improving is only important when it was below good or faulty to begin with. just like the ps3, what would 360 or wii be without sw?

Didn't the launch version have a memory card reader as well?

sd/memory card reader,,,yea

they dropped memory card reader and BC and 2 usb ports for the new PS3s

80...

Smaller chipset meaning less heat and less energy consumption. If you don't care about BC then hell yea the new systems are better. Only negative maybe the lack of 2 usb ports but that can easily be worked around.

Gotta have my BC.

The cheaper version, instantly. There is no difference besides BC. Who really fills up 60gbs on a videogame console?

Also, dropping BC made the console worse, worse, worse.

I've used up about 140 gb of space on my 320gb ps3, I think I'm crazy now.

but PS3 now(compared to 60 GB) run much quieter, cooler, better wifi and imporved blue tooth connections with a better blu ray lens.So in a sense PS3 hardware has improved in the main features but the dropped some of the parts due to different reasons.

My 60GB runs pretty darn quiet anyway. I've had mine since launch and I have yet to have a problem with it regarding heating or...anything. I have friends who own PS3s...never a complaint. Dunno about the wifi stuff though.

BC. That's what went sour. Bloody shame.
