The article end with a remark that PS1 (and 2) were so successful because Crazy Kat was always make sure that they are first and foremost a game machine and not a multimedia machine. PSone was launch using Sony Music deivision and which at first want to sell it as multi-media device (CD and then DVD for PS2). It is remarkable that for PS3, that's exactly what Sony did and try to sell PS3 as multimedia hub instead of an awesome game machine. It's a fascinating article and you can clearly see where they went wrong. I mean for PS1 they got on the stage and announce $299.00 (which was so cheap compare to 3DO and Saturn) but this gen they got on the stage and announce $599!! |
And the article conveniently forgets that it was Krazy Ken that designed and marketed the ps3 too. He is not known for listening to his bosses either so I doubt he was coerced to do this.
I do think the PS brand won't be the same without him though and I don't think he would have dumbed the ps3 to the point of taking out BC which he always ranted about if he was still in charge.
