Sony clearly was banking on the brand of Playstation to overcome the less than stellar line-up at launch and the $599 price point. They forgot how fickle us video game consumers are. He was pushed out for refusing to lshow accountability to his bosses and spending too much money on R&D to produce an overpowered system which sony had to take an even further heavy loss in order to sell.
Granted, he probably wasn't the only one behind the blu-ray addition which is mostly blamed for jacking up the price but he had to take the responsibility because he ultimately decided what was included in the ps3. He still one of the greatest icons to touch gaming but he got blinded on the path to outdo M$ in tech. Perhaps it was the engineer in him that totally disregarded whatever fraction of a businessman he had in himself and he took it personally when he realized that the xbox was vastly more powerful than the ps2 last gen.
