Forums - Sony - Attention Haters! I picked up Resistance 2.

Loved both games, there's quite the difference between both games it kinda seems like there two different games (not that it's a bad thing, alot of the stuff they changed was for the better), but the story stayed intact. The campaign was awesome, it was nothing but intense action the whole time. The boss fights amazing, the graphics superb, the online - almost sh*t myself because I never played anything so intense. Great game can't wait for Resistance 3.

Congrats on the fine purchase purchase :)

Richard - This may be the best thread on VGC this week. It includes great information about some of my favorite games Killzone Liberation, Killzone 2, Resistance 1 and Resistance 2. I think the sp in Resistance 2 is really good, but not great. It provides a lot of additional information and really seems to setup some great story lines for Resistance 3. I agree with Kyliedog about the regenerative health and lack of weapon wheel. Those were my only disappointments with the game. I know these are de facto standards for fps's, but Insomniac created some great weapons, I just want to carry them all.

As mentioned previously, R2 has a great online coop. Both it and L4D were my favorite online games last year.

By the way, I just picked up Resistance Retribution. Can't wait to play it.

I am glad the thread turned out well this week.

The impression I get from Resistance 2, is that it was BADLY outsold by Gears 2 (over the holiday season), and you have individuals (fans) in the Sony camp try to rationalize it not selling as well, during the holiday season.  So, it is fault finding to death, because R2 seemed to not turn out to be a killer app that could turn the sales numbers.  In watching what I saw regarding the documentary they included, was that the creators of R2 listened to fans of the series, who told them to make changes.  And the likely did.  So the weapon system was changed, along with the health.  end result, there are complaints now.

It seems like a good FPS to me.  Maybe it doesn't change the world, but at least it executes properly.  It looks good and so on.

As of now, I will look to get back to it when I finish Killzone 2.  Yes, I picked it up.  It is a great game.  I will likely post comments on it when finished.

R2 is a good game. Playit length and it's sparkle begins to shine through. The single player has suffered from imo over attention to the multiplayer stuff, but nevertheless the game is worth a purchase imo.

You will enjoy it. :)

Hope you can beat the horrible SP quickly and sell it for a true sequel (KZ2).

It's amazing the total opposite nature of both games.

KZ2: Good sequel to horrible first game

R2: Horrible sequel to good first game

I own both.  I purchased R2 for $40, after owning KZ2.  I don't get the bashing regarding it.  I don't get your comment how it is horrible, in the context that the original Killzone was horrible.  Please let me know why you think Resistance 2 is horrible, whil the original Resistance was good.  Outside of changing the health and weapon systems to resemble what you see in Killzone 2, and just about every other FPS out there now, why do you think it is horrible?

On this note, I am curious if people might be holding the original Resistance in too high of a regard, if they thrash the sequel like this.

He genuinely may not like the style of Resistance 2. But I enjoyed it, and will definately be adding it to my collection. You at least have me on your side in saying the game is good. I'll admit KZ2 is the definitive shooter for PS3 but R2 is definately worth purchasing.

I really enjoyed R2. I think it was definitely a very good game.  The MP was greatly improved the story mode was more entertaining than the first Resistance. With that being, I was somewhat disappointed with it.

I think I speak for most people when I say that the reason for some people's disappointment with the game is because they drastically changed the format of the first one.  Playing Resistance 1 and then playing Resistance 2,  does in fact feel like two different games in many regards with the same name.   This difference makes these people (Especially people who liked the original game) possibly disappointed.

If you've never played the original game the best way I can describe it is as a WWII game in the way it felt.  Resistance 2 felt like Independence Day set in a more present time frame.

I think R2 is a better game than R1, But I think it's a very different game and that is the underlying issue.

R2 is a very good game, just not as good as the original imo. I was dissapointed they changed the gameplay so much. It made the sp worse imo. Plus the way they told the story in R2 was worse, they should have sticked with someone telling parts of the story.

The multiplayer did benefit alot from the changes imo, but overall I prefer FoM.

I think you are on the right track with the Gears thought, but I don't think it was sales as much as graphics that the Sony fans were let down by.  R2 has a lot of color to it, and in some cases it may be more of a distraction.  R2 is not in Gears of War 2's class in terms of graphics, but it still looks pretty good.  I think some Sony fans thought that R2 would have moved forward a little more considering it was using the Ratchet engine.

In terms of gameplay, it is fun but a little repetitive and sometimes dull.  There are some cheap deaths, but I guess most games have those.  But there are some pretty impressive battles with a ton of enemies on the screen that you actually have to fight.  The only problem with these battles is your "buddy" ai is pretty useless.  They ignore the enemy and the enemy ignores them.

Searching for health packs may be last gen ( I don't think it is), but I wouldn't discount the missing weapon wheel.  There are some really cool weapons in the game and it sucks when you have to put one down.  Also, you can start to get a feel for the type of enemy that is about to spawn into the level based upon the weapon on the ground (Shotgun = Grim, Grenad Launcher = Titan, Sniper Rifle = stealth.  My favorite weapon was the magnum, because the secondary fire was a little over-powered.

It sounds like you are in the right mindset to truly enjoy the game.  I hope it exceeds your expectations.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.
