MGS3's attach rate is 2.9% and MGS4's attach rate is 18.6%. I think attach rate is meaningless. I think Gran Turismo 5 will outsell Halo 3 because Gran Turismo 3 & 4 outsold Halo 1 & 2. I can make other points but this sums things up pretty well. GT is the more popular franchise and the size of the PS3's user base will likely do little to stop GT5, especially if Sony cuts the PS3's price (which is likely considering how far GT5 is from release)

Again, irrelevant to the thread. I'm not denying the possibility of GT5 outselling Halo 3, although I do doubt it. All I am saying is that in accordance with the OP's scenario, Halo 4 would sell more copies.

Using the fact that GT 3&4 outsold Halo 1&2 when PS2 had 5 times as many consoles in circulation as Xbox is irrelevant to this thread. The scenario given to us is that both games are released for consoles with a 50 million install base :)

How can you still not be getting it?

@Toefactor

Are you for real? My points are:

Gran Turismo is more popular than Halo.

A console's user base does not effect the sales of established franchises (ex. MGS4)

Therefore GT5 will continue the trend of GT outselling Halo.

You keep mentioning the PS2's user base being bigger than the PS3's but what did that mean for MGS? Nothing. What does it mean for GT? Nothing. The only thing that could hurt GT5 is what hurt GT4, lack of online play and vehicle damage.

How can you still not be getting it?

AAAAaaahahahaHAHA AHAHA HAHA HA! Seriously? A console user base has no effect on software sales?

I'm done here. Someone else can try to reason with this kid, that's if he doesn't forget how to breathe first.

Halo would sell much more. If you look at past sales, yes gran turismo has sold more, but they also sold more on a much larger user base than halo. the percentage of xbox owners that owned halo is an incredible accomplishment. I think Halo is a stronger brand with much more appeal, but then again, I'm American, so what do I know:)

@bouzane

Your MGS4 example is pretty unfair.  the ps3 game library isn't nearly as saturated as the ps2's library was at the time of it's release.  Also, that game was bundled with hardware, and it got way better review scores than MGS3.  MGS3 was also very underhyped in comparison.  User base does make a big difference as far as sale figures, which is why so many games are multiplatform now SO THAT THEY CAN MAXIMIZE THE USER BASE.  It seems like a pretty logical point to me.

@Toefactor

Of course the PS3's installed user base will have little to no effect on Gran Turismo, it's an established franchise that sells systems. Common sense dictates that fans of the series will migrate to the PS3 for GT5 like how MGS fans migrated to the PS3 for MGS4. Oops, you don't have common sense.

@Hyruken

My bet is still available, GT5 YTD will excede Halo 3 YTD.

halo series would win hands down. :)

I hate to break it to you but the first installment of Gran Turismo on a Playstation is always more popular than its immediate successor. It would make more sense to compare GT5 to GT3. The install base of the PS3 will likely do nothing to hinder GT5's success due to the fact that Europe accounts for more than half of the series' sales and the PS3's sales trends in that region are similar to that of the PS2. Finally, take the fact that Gran Turismo is a system seller into account and GT5's sales are all but guaranteed to surpass those of Halo 3. I'd be shocked if Halo 3's LTD sales exceeded those of GT5.

 We'll if what you say is true then you have just confirmed that Halo 3 will sell more. If GT games sell better in its 1st installment on each console means GT1 sold 10m in 11 years. That is basically 1m a year ratio. Seeing as Halo 3 is currently at 4.5m a year ratio = Halo 3 wins. Then we take GT3 which sold around 15m on the PS2. On sale for 8 years. Making it have a  1.85m a year average. Again not even close to Halo 3's average. In 8 years time i am pretty ceratin Halo 3 will have sold near to what GT3 has sold. And since GT3 in 2001 no GT game has come close to those numbers. Once again concluding that thinking GT5 will beat Halo 3 numbers = massive assumption which is very unlikely.

With this spin right here, you have surpassed CrazzyMan. Seriously, I haven't seen worse logic in a long, long time.
