Our software sales data isnt anywhere near what we want it to be but our hardware is pretty much spot on with every professional service in existence at the moment averaging within 5% of professionally released data. We will not release who our retail sources are for confidentiality reasons. What I can tell you is our data is based off of retail figures, shipment numbers, and our sources. Software, even for professional trackers like the NPD Group, can get difficult to track due to the fact that games dont stop selling till their production ends making so that at least a few copies of a game can be sold at retailers (not from used bins). |
This pretty much sums it up. I first started tracking VGChartz data in 2007. I originally thought this site was nothing more than a simexchange concept. But I have watched VGChartz report data weekly since then, and their data coorelates very well with MediaCreate, NPD, and manufacturer shipment data. The only true wildcard is Europe, since their isn't a reliable tracking firm, you can only true-up the data with shipments. I think the hardware numbers are very good, and the software numbers vary depending upon initial shipment size of the title.
Thanks for the input, Jeff.
