"If a game goes AO (Adult Only) then they will not allow it, but all home consoles take that stand"

Why don´t they allow it?

Because they are afraid

Well I was actually intrigued that they were bringing Dead Space to the Wii. When I clicked this topic though I found out it was a rail shooter. Rail shooters is a genre that died in the 90s because they aren't quality titles. I'll just leave it to that.

I thought they died because kids would rather stay at home and play emo JRPGS than spend a quarter at their local arcades.

I mean the best selling mature games on the Wii are probably Resident Evil and CoD. However those same games sell much better on the 360 and PS3 even though there are far more Wii consoles out there.

Here we go again...

You mention RE and COD. As I'm sure you know, the only main-series RE available on the Wii is a port of a GC game, so your argument is pretty weak there. RE4:Wii's sales exceeded Capcom's expectations.

As for COD it's still selling, and the previous COD game on the Wii was craptastic (the port of COD3). I suspect Activision knows that its sales compared to PS360 are partly their fault for not having established a COD fanbase on the Wii.

Well it seems that the only M rated games that break the one million mark are already established. I mean the best selling mature games on the Wii are probably Resident Evil and CoD. However those same games sell much better on the 360 and PS3 even though there are far more Wii consoles out there.

Now the PS2 catered to a large audience as well but mostly for people looking for mature games. The E rated games were not nearly as successful as the T and M rated games. Even during that gen the really popular E games were on a Nintendo console. Actually the top selling Gamecube games is a more respectable list than the top selling Wii games.

Like I said earlier I feel rail shooters are just a simple way to cash in without developing a quality title. Bear in mind that several of these rail shooters come from established franchises. Also why would developers bother creating quality games for the Wii when it seems simple party games or popular licenses sell better?

Regarding HD games like RE selling better, this is a point you will see a lot on these forums, but the main thing publishers/developers are concerned with is profitability, as with any business.

Because HD development is more costly (20-30 mil per title is common, and sometimes costs more), a higher amount of units is needed to be sold, whereas Wii development ranges from 5-10 mil. Less units can be sold for the Wii version but still turn a profit faster due to the cheaper dev cost.

As for your last question, it depends on what the developer wants to make. Most development teams have dreams of games they'd like to make. Its not all a "McDonalds" situation, churn out crap to sell. For instance, I have no interest in sports games as a gamer or as a developer, and I wouldn't make such a game just because sports games sell. In fact, the FPS game we're working on was more of a compromise than it was my vision. My goals are to develop games that would put Resident Evil and Silent Hill to shame. It's all about vision.

Why don´t they allow it?

Adult Only games usually have pornographic content, or are just so extreme that they are banned by the government anyway.

I think that is just unfair. No genre of game is inferior than another. Listen, I hate JRPGs, I cannot for the life of me understand the interest. However I understand that is an issue of taste. On the other hand I like rail-shooters, granted I'm getting sick of them with so many coming out, but I was pumped as hell when the first few arrived.

I get that you don't like rail-shooters, thats fine. But don't pretend that your taste applies equally to all of us.

And yes I am disappointed we are not getting a normal RE or Dead Space game.

On rail arcade shooters were great! I did miss them a lot when the PS2-era started, along the Beat-em ups.

I don't mind on rails on wii. I think that's cool. What it worries me is that companies get the idea that we the Wii owners only play on rails because we can't play anything else.

There's nothing wrong with the genre. The genre like the others is fine. The mentality behind the creation of said titles is what worries me.

With that said, DSE is created by the same AAA team that did the original DS and they seem to be a quality product.

I hope I am right.

I don't get it. "Look mom- without hands" ?? What does it mean?
