Forums - Gaming - How Sony and Microsoft are possibly destroying hardcore gaming

if Sony and MS are "Destroying" Hardcore gaming, then MS destroyed JRPGs and the Japanese gaming market.

 No JRPG's are destroying themselves with developers being either unable or unwilling to evolve the genre past the glory days of 10 years ago.  Pretty much any JRPG's story can be predicted within the first  hours play, they just keep reusing the same formula's.  I sincerely hope they try something very different with FFXIII.

lets put it this way. most people who are buying the wii are not upgrading to the HD consoles why? because alot of wii owners never played video games in the first place. so to say that hardcore gaming is dependent on the casuals is a joke, and hell when is the last time besides madworld u saw Ninty put out a hardcore game, and yes the conduit is coming i know i know

Congratulations, you completely missed the entire argument Rol was making.

Hardcore games arent a "sustainable business" um ok lts see...Halo 3...Gears of War...Resistance....COD....Killzone...Oblivion....GTA....MGS 4....I can continue on for ever Hardcore gamers are the ones driving this business without their loyalty to videogames this generation would have NEVER came at all....Nintendo should be blamed for destroying the gaming industry...making a cheap console with shovelware to attract "casual gamers" who god knows if they will ever become true gamers....and not buy shovelware like WiiMusic...WiiSports...WiiFit...also The Ps3 and 360 were released WAY before we hit a recession so while HD gaming does cost more money than Wiigames to develop...it is not their fault were in this unstable economy as of right now and Publishers and Developers are having a hard time making profits...

You can cherry pick data points all you want, but if you look at the companies that are the most dedicated to producing "Hardcore" titles on the HD consoles you will see a pattern of publishers with record revenues and record losses.

@HappySqurriel

Well let's put it this way then make great games and you will make a profit...make lazy rehash titles year after year and lose money :)

hardcore gaming died a long time ago with the snes

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Reggie says that Animal Crossing is a hardcore game. Wii fanboys seem to think any game that isn't on Wii is hardcore.

I love how HD fanboys are denying this reality when some third parties have even admitted to using the strategy of using high-profit shovelware titles to fund unprofitable HD titles.

Edit@Megadude: Wrong, you misunderstand the terminology Nintendo uses.  A core game is not a hardcore game; a core game is a game from an established franchise that's got a good chance of selling.  For example, Wii Sports was not a core game, but Wii Sports Resort is.

And besides, in some ways, Animal Crossing is more of a hardcore game than the HD shooter of the week.
