Forums - Nintendo - Why is the Wii getting so few games weekly in Japan?

Why do people get annoyed when someone does an analysis? I'm NOT ATTACKING NINTENDO in any way. People here react as if I was being irrational lol. I'm saying it's time for devs to start supporting the Wii more, that's it. PS2 is already a dead console, yet it's getting more games than the Wii.

@ trestres

They're all scheduled for 2009, so they're coming the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters.
I just listed more than 20 games or so coming in the next...9 months. So thats more than 1 game a month. Plus I only listed the bigger games. I didn't mention ones like Little King's Story, Bleach, Naruto games...etc.

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

@mike: Why are you attacking me? Should I report you? Because my point stands, the PS2 is getting more games. A 9 year old machine getting more games than a 3 year old one, that's not common. And when if you check my post instead of mindlessly attacking me, you would see what kind of support is the Wii getting.
All this means that home consoles are dead, because all the games Japanese want are going to the portables or to a last gen console.

Based on the numbers you posted for the future releases, why are you single out Wii since it has more games listed than both PS3 and 360? I don't think it's common that PS2 is getting more support than PS3.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

That's the problem, the market leader and the rest of the current gen consoles are getting less games than a 9 year old last gen console. That's a problem, since we are well into the current gen. It's not the first year of this gen, we are now on the third and if PS2 gets more games that's actually worrying.

@ trestres

I counted the Nintendo Conference games. Ones like Cosmic Walker, Dynamic Slash, Line Attack Heroes, Tact of Magic, Kensakusu, Punch out, Endless Ocean 2. Then I added in 2 games that Nintendo will announce either at GDC or E3 (I think 2 is a little conservative but whatever). That plus the 12 games I mentioned puts it over 20.

Its because the HD current gen is what people bet on and it is a collosal failure. The budgets are high and the returns are low. And since no one bet on the wii, the amount of big name games is very small. It takes time to develop them. I think what we are seeing now are that there is some restructuring, a process that will take a bit of time. I don't know when it began, but it will have mroe wii games and less HD games. One part of this is already occuring.

As for ps2, the small niche publishers have a big userbase there and are not yet willing to take risks. The announcement of DQ X will help in this department, but again, it will take a bit of time.

I did not mean that to be taken as an attack.  I apologize.

That being said, I do think that it is not as much of a problem as you are making it out to be.  You are right, the PS2 is getting more (one more) game than the Wii (my second post added the numbers). But we don't know the quality of the games for either -- which is really what makes a difference. For example, in the US, a lot of the Wii games that people consider "shovelware" were previously released for the PS2 in PAL regions (particularly Australia).

Also, the way your OP read, it made it sound like the PS3 and Xbox 360 were also getting more titles (even though that is not what you said). In truth, they are not getting nearly as many titles and only the irregularities of release patterns make it seem like there is an issue. (Also, if I recall correctly, the biggest differences occured later in the quarter, which may mark games that could get delayed).

Ah its been awhile since we had a Trestres "Why has Nintendo betrayed me?" post

A better question is, "Why has Japan become so turned off to gaming?" If it weren't for the Wii sales, Japan would be painting a very bleak picture for the future of the game industry.

If you prefer an answer, its simple - games aren't designated to come out every week. Strategic planning for releases is best - like right on the heels of a major conference (like E3, GDC), the weeks leading up to a major holiday. Right now, there's no reason to release games, thus the lull.

@bardic: Lol this isnt a Nintendo has betrayed me post. WTH?
