Forums - Gaming - Nintendo, Who are the Fat-Cats Pocketing all of That Profit? Where's the $?

A big part of it is going into their warchest. They build up the warchest so that they can weather peiods of economic crisis, actually, and so they'll have something to fall back on if any of their systems just crash and burn spectacularly.

Nintendo is a very conservative company.

@majin

then we would've had mass bannings in january when every other article was about SONY, PS3, Doomed, bankruptcy

Difference is, Sony is still posting losses. Not saying PS3 is doomed, but I can see why one would draw that conclusion. There's no sane reason to agree with any of the crap you keep posting.

Also, I hardly see how me wanting to report you for trolling has any relation to threads from 2 months ago which I did not report for trolling. :p

"1. Hiring the talent from the recently fallen Factor 5."

ROFL!!

Whoever wrote that article REALLY is insane :)

Factor5 have NO talent. If they did, they would make GOOD games (not tripe), and the company wouldn't be dead.

As for Nintendo's profit, its going:

1/ Shareholders

2/ Bank

3/ R&D of lots of games we have no idea about (and more gaming tech)

What shams said.

Allow me to take a moment to laugh at all those who think they know better than Nintendo when it comes to their strategy, which has generated some of the biggest profits and profit margins in the gaming industry ever.

You could have posted the question and not the blog article and nobody would have flamed you.
Especially something with HD in the url that talks about Nintendo.

In Chinese, they'd call the poster "Mix Shit Stick", loosely translated :)

Who are you the SEC? Where the money is being spent is none of your business anymore than it is Nintendo’s business how you spend your money. I’m sure the moron who wrote this original spam is a captain of industry but it’s my guess that Nintendo is going to ignore your advice and thrive because of it. Why don't you give us some solutions for Sony's troubles instead of posting some losers plan to fuck up Nintendo's very successful business model? Let's see, Sony and MS have better online support yet they have dismal sales in relation to the Wii. Huh, who would have thought that? I guess most Wii owners don’t care enough for it to slow sales. The same goes for the games they still seem to sell well enough even with all their "flaws". If you’re not happy with the direction Nintendo is taking you have other two other choices that you obviously feel are superior.

BTW, SSBB wasn’t constrained by money it was constrained by time according to “Sakurai san”

“It's taken over three years to make Brawl but I actually stopped trying to include new ideas early on in development. What happened in the next year and a half was that we distilled the game down, worked out which ideas we had time to include and which we didn't. Sadly, we had to trim out many great concepts just to keep within the time constraints. I had a lot more characters, for example, but sadly I can't discuss which ones didn't make it. There are 39 characters in the game this time around and just adding a few more wouldn't be enough to justify a new game in my opinion; I'd have to draw a line in the sand and have a new approach to make it worthwhile. As long as the fans enjoy it, though, that's what matters and in the distant future, I guess that might be something I have to consider”.

It's Shigs! He's the Fatcat!

As far as i know, Sakurai had pretty much free hands with Brawl, since Iwata went and announced the game before it was even planned (well, he didn't announce it, but the press read it as announcement). Including the online (where the problem seems to be the low latency network).

Nintendo did build the online service pretty much out of nothing, people just tend to forget that Live had the same complaints as Nintendo is having now, just that M$ never had the same problem with traffic as Nintendo has.

Why not buy the Conduit IP, why not buy Resident Evil IP, why not buy CoD IP, why not buy any third party IP. Nintendo could afford them.
Why not hire F5 devs or buy Sega or buy a dozen dev studios. Nintendo could afford them.
Just because someone thinks an investment is good or that it would be cool for Nintendo to do something, doesn't mean that something actually is. You can profit only if you make good investments.

There are RPG:s. MMORPG:s are very expensive to maintain. Besides, wasn't the complaint about online, that it's bad. Shouldn't Nintendo focus on making the online work better instead of building an MMO and put more traffic for the servers.

Nintendos profits go to:
Bank.
Taxes.
Shareholders.
R&D.
Other investments (shares, monetary funds).

NWC is indeed a minimal connectivity service with a tacked on annoyance(FC). The thing is developers are not actually limited. They are just lazy cheap sob. If there is a problem with NWC from a developer stand point don't use it. There is no requirement. NWC is the same for the DS. Yet Disney, yes Disney has opened DGamer. A private system independent of NWC and Nintendo that is a better connectivity service. Developers and the whiny console gamers are just whiny.

In all honesty i'm am suprised that no company has stepped in to create a third party sytem. I suppose it has to do with servers. These companies want to minimilize.

Nintendo is pretty clear about avoiding using 2nd party software. Though i'm sure exceptions will occur.

2
I agree. The next Pokemon for the DS should be more along the lines of an MMO.

If these people want a job with Nintendo they can send an application. I'm sure Nintendo will be happy enough to look at them seriously.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

I think it's wrong that you plagiarise this stuff and pass it off as your own work by putting your... logo... at the end. That's not taking into account how incredibly pathetic I find it in the first place.
