Forums - Microsoft - Max number of players on LIVE?

I havent play on LIVE since halo 2 on the original xbox.(good times xD)

I remember 16 was the max number of players. I was wondering, is there a game that supports more players on LIVE?

PSN has resistance's 40, resistance2's 60 and now killzone 2's 32. And that MAG game that will supposely have 256 players. (but the game looks...meh)

PC cod4 supports 64 players. and only 18 on consoles

I know a game like gears of war is not meant for those number of players but what about halo?

Is this the service limit or its just a matter of game developers chossing 16 as max?

I think LIVE should be superior in this regard.(its a paid service)

Edit: I now know Perfect dark zero supports up to 32 players...but still half from PSN max...

Frontlines Fuel of War supports 50 players on dedicated servers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frontlines:_Fuel_of_War

Battlefield Bad Company I think has up to 24 players also on dedicated servers run by EA.

There's no hard limit.  Most game designs just don't work very well (i.e. not fun) with more.  Some do of course (MMO) and I'd love to see Crackdown with 1000s of players in a single world.  Live can certainly do this (to the extend that live is involved, Live arranges connections between peers) but apart from PSO I haven't seen it.

Ya that is true in most cases but Resistance 2 supports up to 60 players with no lag at all (it sounds crazy but just read some reviews) which is truly astonishing. So in this situation it would be ps3 > 360 when it comes to players and online experience. Or also ps3 > 360 ( quanity + quality > just quality).

But of course you have to put in the fun factor and personally, the ps3 has not gotten an experience like halo. Killzone might be close, but I for one am one jealous ps3 owner and needs a halo game on the ps3. :)

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

I'm sure they could include more if they want to, there is nothing fundamentally better about the PS3's internet connection which means that it can support more players online (to my knowledge) and you can't get at MAG from just seeing 1 trailer of it

It is all up to the developers.
