Forums - Nintendo - Theory: Nintendo holding back Wii announcements to give DS the last push.

Maybe after FY 08 ends Nintendo may be willing to make Wii related announcements. My theory is, they are gonna give the DS the last big push, by launching DSi, which launch coincides with the end of Fiscal year 08 (Launches April 2nd and FY08 ends March 31). So we can expect a lot of big news in regards to the Wii after that. GDC will be used to show off the DSi nothing else, and maybe upcoming DSi games. Wii will be their main focus after that, or that's what I expect, mainly at E3. I hope I'm right, deep inside me I believe this is the last ounce of hope I have in regards to Nintendo supporting the Wii. But it's just me.

Discuss.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Nintendo will announce the games when they're ready. It is interesting that DSi falls at their Fiscal New Year, but i don't think that has as much to do with it.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

The DSi doesn't have exclusive games besides the downloadable ones. It's like saying the PSP-3000 is a brand new system.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

You might be at least partly right. Nintendo probably has already made fiscal and is saving any announcements to boost next years sales of Wii.

@thekitchensink: They said they were going to make DSi specific games, that make use of the camera for example, and games for DSiWare. So yes, the DSi will play games that the DS won't be able to play, so Nintendo is going to make announcements, they already did with the DSiWare games, expect more at launch.

i think they are holding back games because why should they spend money developing games when they could completely stop making new games for the rest of the generation and just release wiiware games and still keep up the same kind of sales.

That is obviously not true. Look at the effects of them not releasing too many new games has on the Wii sales in Japan. Also like everybody has said for ages. Nintendo is a software company that makes hardware to fit their software, not the other way around. Yes Nintendo could think they could make alot of money off of hardware, but they were and always will be a software company, and that means they will be making future releases. Also you must be in major denial if you think they will only release wiiware games the rest of it's life.

I don't believe a word of it. Nintendo is the only area where sales are dropping, which I should mention are about half the sales of the US, everywhere else it has grown despite what you call not releasing too many new games.

Sales have increased by a lot.

I'm not in denial, I'm saying they wouldn't have to release anything this year except wii ware games, and sales would still grow. Just look at this past year.

Also, I have a theory about the Japan drop, it's simply because everyone already has one :P
