Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo fans only - Are you happy with Nintendo's First Party offerings?

I buy PS/Xbox consoles for more adult games. I buy Nintendo consoles for Mario , Zelda, and Metriod games. Usually I buy a few more, but this gen doesn't have much I'm interested in so far. Do I feel betrayed? No. Zelda alone is worth the price for me. Disappointed... Yes.

n9, I've never been happy with them... guess that means my post is null... Wow.

But I do feel they could try to release a few more AAA 1st or 2nd party titles. Especially with all the resources they have and the truckloads of money pouring in. And I mean core titles like Mario, Zelda, F-Zero, Starfox, Kirby, Pikmin, 1080, Paper Mario, etcetera...

I mean I'm fine with the whole casual thing and I absolutely think casual titles are a good thing to have on a console, but I just think that the way things stand right now, Nintendo's casual efforts massively overshadow their core efforts. Yes we got Zelda and Galaxy and Corruption and Brawl from Nintendo, but at the same time we have Wii Sports, Play, Fit, Music, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Mario Party, Wario Ware, Link's CT, and a bunch more, all of which are casual titles (don't bother trying to claim MK and AC are not casual, they are).
Yes I KNOW the profits from those easy and quick to create casual titles are like over 9000 times higher than from core games that spend time in development for years and sell less, but still.

And yeah, there are those 'New Play Control!' titles, but I honestly don't care too much, I've played them years ago. I'm sure we'll see a new Zelda, maybe a new Mario, and probably another core title here and there, but, well, it's really kinda like Nintendo doesn't care too much about those kind of games anymore.
And yes, I'm aware we'll get Punch-out and Sin and Punishment, but those are 2 titles I'm not interested in at all. Also, the original Sin and Punishment is one of the most overrated and overly hyped games in history. I guess there must be some people who like it, but it's really not that good. At all, really. As a game, it's just plain bad. Feel free to flame me if you feel the frothing desire to do so. Please, you're welcome to. I know you want to.
Actually, the only game from Nintendo I'm looking forward this year (so far, I know we'll get more) is Endless Ocean 2.

Still, I really like and totally respect Nintendo as a company.

I think not all their casual franchises are selling that good anymore. Take a look at Link's CT, Wii Music, Animal Crossing, Big Brain Academy, Wario Ware all below SSBB, Mario Galaxy and Zelda. It means that there's a bigger demand for 1st party core titles than that of 1st party casual titles by the longtime Nintendo fans. The new gamers did embrace Wii Fit, but Wii Sports and Wii Play were bought mainly because of their bundles. MKWii is core and casual so it's not useful to compare here.

I think that Nintendo can sell a lot of games, but they aren't trying anymore. At least the New Play Control thing is not helping. Maybe after FY 08 ends they may be willing to announce things. My theory is, they are gonna give the DS the last big push, by launching DSi, which launch coincides with the end of Fiscal year 08 (Launches April 2nd and FY08 ends March 31). So we can expect a lot of big news in regards to the Wii after that. GDC will be used to show off the DSi nothing else, and maybe upcoming DSi games. If Nintendo doesn't show anything after the DSi launch then it will mean that they are content with the Wii sales and they wont release anything big anymore and I will be seriously angry.

This has been the best gen for me in regards to having Nintendo hardware. So I am happy and satisfied with Nintendo software. It has been fantastic. I do however continue and in many cases prefer third party.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

I think Nintendo is by far my favorite publisher right now. I love many of its Wii and DS games. Many of my favorite games of this generation are published by Nintendo (SSBB, Wii Sports, Wii Play, Link's Crossbow Training, Super Paper Mario, SMG, Picross DS, and Tetris DS). I also love what Nintendo has done with VC.

I don' think Sony or Microsoft have come close in publishing 1st party games I like. I only love 2 Sony 1st party games and 1 Microsoft 1st party games, so far this generation.

No, because there have only been two titles (SMG and SSBB) worthy of my "awesome" status on the Wii (NSMB, MKDS, AWDS, KPP), compared to nine on the GC (SMS, LM, SSBM, MP, MP2, Pikmin, WW, TTYD, MKDD).

The DS has been fine overall, but not since the Wii launch there have been no new, big first-party titles).

In addition, the Wii did not meet my expectations for MkWii, MP3, and SPM all of which had great installments on GC.

But a single good first-party title announced for Q4 2009 would change this. Any of:

- New real Paper Mario on Wii
- New 2D Metroid on DS or Wii
- New 3D Metroid nothing like Prime 3 on Wii
- New Mario game
- New Zelda game
- The Kirby Wii being in the UK this year and not sucking
- Kid Icarus on Wii
- Starfox on Wii
- Earthbound, Wii or DS
- Luigi's Mansion sequel
- F-Zero on Wii
- Pilotwings on Wii

Just ONE of those. MUST be EAD/IS or other internal, respected developer, because the recent trend of outsourcing good franchises to have them professionally ruined (i.e. Artoon's YIDS) is bad.

Yes, but still, one of those casual titles selling half a million probably generates more profit than a big budget core title that sells 2 or 3 million.
