Forums - Gaming - SF IV - I had to trade it in already - it was makikng me look bad!

I've had it two weeks, I've tried it on medium, easiest, on-line, challenges and I am rubbish.

I mis-spent most of my University days between Addams Family pinball and SF2 arcade and I was pretty good at both. On SF2 I could handle most challengers as Ryu or Vega and could be on the machine for ages.

After a major hiatus (barring GBA SF2 and Capcom v SNK) I jumped at the thought of playing SFIV. It looked great and reviewed well.

Hmm - let me list the reason it has gone back to the shops already:

1. Insane ramp up in difficulty level for final Seth fight. I can't block him and only beat him once with Ryu. I am a fairly calm person but on many occassion I wanted to hurl the controller (this all relates to the PS3 version BTW)

2. Online "ranking" matches. i was up against people with 2000 BP against my 0-80 BP, never got higher than that. I got my ass kicked so many times I lost count.

3. Combos - I couldn't hit a decent combo with the pad if I tried. On challenge mode with Ryo, hard punch to Hadoken couldn't be done.

4. Poxy load times, the bane of my life which seems to have carried on from the PS era. Why do you have to wait between 15-30 seconds to retry the same level?

So it is with my tail between my legs that I take the game back to PX for RE5 (fingers crossed).

Is it me? Am i just an aging gamer who can't cut it any more or is the game purely for tournament level players?

Must read title before putting post up to check if I can type!!

You can play the game on normal and set it up so that when people challenge you they have to be around your skill level or eaven have to be around your area to perevent lag.

As for combos with the D-Pad no problems here (PS3 version)

I read something about the reason for SF's decline in sales being due to becoming a tournament game, may have been on this forum actually..

So your probably right there but I haven't had the chance to play it yet.

It was probably the right the discision to return the game, when you sucked at it (don't take it personally)
Since a good friend of mine is a huge Street Fighter fan, we have a lot of fun. Singleplayer..... well yes Seth can be a bitch sometimes and it's really ridiculous to wait so long until you finally can retry the stage. (While changing the character is generally a nice idea, it's most of the time just annoying)

So you're trading it in because you suck at it? Anyway.. find some friends to play against or someone less skilled. Either way, you shouldn't trade it in but I can't control your actions..

Pixel Art can be fun.

I traded it in because it was seriously pissing me off. I don't see the point of sticking at it if you aren't enjoying it.

And yes, it was making me feel inadequate!

PS - most of my mates are FPS players and not interested in SF...

Why not trade it in SmokedHostage? If he can't enjoy the game then shouldn't he trade it in to be able to spend the money on something that's fun for him?

I honestly think he's trading it in for a poor reason.

What would be a good reason? I have put some serious hours into trying to enjoy it.

I am trading it to get RE5 which I am getting for the same reason I got SFIV - I like the past games and the reviews are pretty good.
