Forums - General - Who else here reads?...and what?

As in reads books. Like, regularly, for enjoyment.

Me, I read like crazy. If it's not fiction for my own personal enjoyment (or in a never-ending attempt to broaden my literary horizons) it's some antiquated text for an English class or droning textbook for any other class. A game sales site isn't the kind of place to go saying stuff like this, but I read more than I game these days. That's what I get for being an English major.

I'm traditionally a fantasy readin' man myself, though I'm not really a traditional fantasy readin' man. I'm bored to tears by things with orcs, elves, powerful wizards; pretty much anything Tolkien or D&D derivative. More gritty, realistic stuff with more focus on characters and narrative than magic and redundantly detailed maps. Pat Rothfuss's "The Name of the Wind" and Scott Lynch's "Lies of Locke Lamora", for example.

I'll pretty much read anything if it grabs my attention though. I spend a lot of time reading short story collections; I just love the art of the short story. Far as classic stuff goes I'm a  fan of Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway, Edgar Allen Poe, Charles Dickens, Kurt Vonnegut, Ray Bradbury. And I do have a huge soft spot for well written humor books (Alphabet of Manliness FTW).

So what about you guys? Anybody else out there an avid reader? What are some of the best books you've read recently/have ever read?

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

Yes, and I don't get why people wouldn't.

Favourite book: 1984
Favourite author: Terry Prachett

I wouldn't say I read novels regularly, but when I pick up a series I read heavily, so it's basically large gaps between heavy reading.

Favourite book: Night by Elie Wiesel.

I'm an avid but picky reader. In my youth I devoured anything fantasy - Robert Jordan, Tolkien, David Eddings and Raymond E Feist being my favourites. Nowadays I seem to have run out of good books. I like 1984, Brave New World, Watership Down, To Kill a Mockignbird, Catcher in the Rye, Dune, anything by Asimov but cannot find any other authors of their caliber.

I am currently reading the complete works of Edgar Allan Poe, and the complete works of Oscar Wilde, and am going to read The origin of species and The Wealth of Nations

I'm currently reading "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. Fantastic read about a father and son traveling south after something unnamed devastates the world into a nuclear wasteland like Fallout. It's from the same author that wrote No Country for Old Men. Before that I was reading a biography on Joe Willie Namath.

I did until a few months ago, due to my heavy workload at uni I have not read a book since January. But when I do read it is almost exclusively fantasy books, I'm quite a big fan of them. If I have nothing to do I usually read about two books a week, but I doubt I will ever recover that form for long while.

No, I don't read books too much.

Nintendo still doomed?
Feel free to add me on 3DS or Switch! (PM me if you do ^-^)

I read lots of Lord of the Rings-esque books. I'm reading Hero, Second Class right now which is very good. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys comedy, and books that make fun of LotR-esque books. It's definitely funny, but there are a few Christian bits in there... Just a warning for some of you. =)

We're not counting school books, right? :P

I don't read too much, but when I find a book/series that I like it's one of my favorite things to do. My favorite series are Harry Potter and Inheritance (some people might know it as the first book, Eragon).

Oh I also read news and posts online. I'm surprised no one's mentioned that yet.

Don't laugh, but I'm reading the Twilight Saga right now >_
