Forums - Nintendo - The VGChartz "Buy Ogre Battle on the Virtual Console" Campaign

'When I say "campaign" I mean "topic".

When I refer to buying Ogre Battle on the Virtual Console, I am referring to you, the reader who is looking at this, who is not hateful but loves his fellow man and all things about him. We all want each other to enjoy things, and we want to enjoy things for ourselves, too!

So buy Ogre Battle.

"But Mr. Khuutra, you cantankerous curmudgeon with hate in his heart and lye in his belly," you say, "what is Ogre Battle, and why should I buy it with my hard-earned moneys instead of, say, stabbing you in the face?"

I am glad you asked, rather than acting on that initial instinct. You have my pre-emptive thanks!

Ogre Battle is a game that was released on the SNES and the Playstation. It is something of a combination between an RPG and an RTS, an almost completely unique game wherein one builds armies made up of five-man units and sends them out to do battle with other units! Unit composition determines attack styles and speed, and the arrangement of your warriors determines how effective each unit is. Wizards are better in the bak, knights in the front, you can block off physical attacks by putting a tank in front of your wizard... what have you.

The game's strategy largely has to do with how you build and deploy your units, how you use fortifications, and naturally in how you consider the lay of the land! This is the first console RTS, in a way, except that it is an experience intrinsic to consoles - it's also an RPG, you see, and its pacing reflects that. There is a great amount of micromanaging you can do, but the scale on which it happens emphasizes planning and anticipation, not twitch-based reflexes.

Also there is a very nice class system, based on your units' stats and alignments! This class system eventually became the class system of Tactics Ogre, which of course turned into that in Final Fantasy Tactics. Love it!

This game is awesome with a hifalutin political storyline and bad-ass characters and clashing armies!

It is fast-paced and epic!

You cannot go wrong for 800 Wii Points!

"But Khuutra, I'm European!"

....Shit!

i'm thinking about getting this as soon as i fix my wii.

off topic slightly but i found my tactics ogre gamboy advance cartridge the other day, i got excited about playing it and thought i left it in a 'safe' place, which i had planned to come back to. I came back to it a few days later and it was gone, tears were streaming down my eyes while i searched for it... still cant find it!!!

maybe ogra battle will make up for it

Tactics Ogre is great, but it and Ogre Battle are great in distinct ways. They do share the same grand scale and plot, though, which does a lot.

The GBA game ain't half bad!

No.

If we're gonna have a campaign to support an SRPG, let's support Fire Emblem instead. :)

Ogre Battle isn't that kind of SRPG. Ogre Battle is completely unique amongst all games, which makes it worth experiencing.

It is only 800 points!

Ogre Battle on the N64 was the best in my opinion. Diomedes was my favorite character.

The Ogre Battle series is great and I normally don't came for RPG's. I don't know exactly what that says, but the games are very entertaining.

As a JRPG fan who has never played an Ogre Battle game, I'll definitely buy it...soon as I scrape up the funds. 800 points=$8=a lot of money for a currently unemployeed English major with a rapidly dwindling bank account.

Food > JRPG's (slightly)

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

Don't complain about how much games cost.  People get angry about that sort of thing around here.
