Forums - Sales - Street Fighter IV. What happened?

I could be wrong, but I think the traditional "Fighting" genre is slowly fading away.

As for Street Fighter IV, Japan would have been a big seller if the game wasn't out in the arcades for a long period of times before the release to consoles.

I hasn't been in arcades that long. It's only been in arcades since July---so 6-7 months, which is standard for any company who actually wants make an arcade profit. I guarantee you Tekken 6 will sell more FW in Japan, and by the time that game comes out, it would've been 2 years since it's original arcade release.

Fact is, SF hasn't been a huge seller since the 16-bit era. I expected the game to sell more in Japan, but overall, the game has fallen in line with my expectations. It won't outsell SC4 or T6, and it hasn't been able to do that for over a decade now.

But it's really hard to say, this is the kind of game that will sell because of the quality not the marketing(was high, though), making games easier are really dangerous because you catch newer gamers but loose the old ones.

And people once had to learn how to play, they started having hard time with first Zelda, SF and FF(the first was REALLY hard), why can't new players have difficult to learn? Why people are so lazy about having challenges nowadays? I remember the 16 bit when someone just had hard time playing they said " Now I do want to Win on this game" and people say now "This wasn't made for me" and go do other stuff, and the worst is that isn't just with gaming, people seems to be more lazy with everything. This really makes me sad. No one can achieve nothing acting like that, no just in gaming but in life.

SF 4 will have legs being that it is the best fighter out. Sold my copy of Brawl for Street Fighter 4 and couldn't be more pleased with my decision.

Unless it gets a price cut soon (see: not gonna happen), I doubt it'll have legs, honestly. It's already proven that it doesn't.

This just wasn't a good time to release the game. Too many big releases overshadowing it, with KZ, Halo Wars, and RE5. Especially RE5---I have no idea why Capcom is putting two of their games in direct competition with one another.

I can't talk about everywhere else but I went to my local shopping centre to buy it and it was sold out in every single store that sold games (I went to six different places).

I ended up buying halo wars limited edition instead.

The game is impossible to beat thats why no one is buying it.

What?  Ok, let me go through this:

1. Set the game on Easiest.

2. Set the game on one round only for win.

3. Learn the art of mixing up attacks, particularly high jump kick and then now foot sweep.

4. Map the medium punch and kick to the top buttons.

Doing this, I was able to unlock everything except the two bosses that require wins without no damage and performing ultra finishers.  I am ok at fighting games.  I am not great, but ok.  I guess it depends on what one considers beating.

Undertracked?  There are people on Cpcom Unity asking when Capcom are gonna ship more copies because it is sold out where they are

Undetracked by 1 million must be a record. My local store have plenty of copies (mostly PS3) only the special edition was sold out. Probably it's only bad distribution.

VGC has been pretty accurate for games post-2007, in any case. The game may be undertracked, but if so, it's probably by no more than 50,000 or so units.

even though i love sf4, its not really a great game for people who dont play sf

also, the new charcters are boring, except el fuerte who sucks, and the online isnt really streamlined

its more for sf fans than anyone as pepople have said before

Everyday I'm hustlin'.

Wii and DS owner.

And exactly what is wrong with El Fuerte?
