Forums - Microsoft - My reasoning why the nextbox wont be fully downloading.

1. Bandwidth is too low in many places of the world.

2. With games taking upwards of 30 gigs on both systems this gen, you would run out of space so quickly.

3. ISP's put a bandwidth limit in many places.

4. It would require a huge server to store all these 1000+ 10-50 gig games.

These are the reasons why I think that the nextbox will not be downloading games only. Even a 1 TB drive will get filled up very quickly with games using 50 gigs a pop.

And no they wont let you burn games to store them, that would make piracy too easy.

Plus retailers would hate it.

we can expect fully downloadable game after 20 years

I think we'll have an option for both. The really big (important) games will be downloadable OR buyable at a store.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

I don't expect fully downloads for a long time. However I do expect some games if not all to have the option next gen. However for it to work they would have to be cheaper like $50 compared to $60 at the store.

Retailers would hate that, too.

Another thing is, If they don't have any hard copies of games, Gamestop probably would refuse to sell it. They make most of their money from used games. Why waste room on storing systems that you cant make money off the games.

there aren't too many things that would make me happier, than gamestop running out of business.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

Hear, hear.

If they approached it like they are with the gta dlc eg you can get a box in the store that allows you to dl it with a code then the retailers wouldn't care.

I agree though, the next console will still have some for of physical media otherwise it'd be too restricting for a huge portion of users.

not yet, we are not ready for that we even have some people still using dial up here in the forums.

but i think a hybrid model would work. but i dont see this happening for big files anytime soon.

it worked for mp3s, but they are small files but games even at our generation are 8-33gb (mgs4) woudl take weeks even in a decent connection (i have 2mbps and 4gb its a pain).

and expect next gen to be even bigger.

while speeds are going to be better games size it's going increase faster than internet speeds for a while due the ISP tactics and monopoly hell and now they are trying to cap our downloads.
