Forums - Gaming - Will there ever be a JRPG as well known as FF7? A FF7-Killer, if you may.

FF7 is arguably better than 6, some agree some dont.

That's kind of like saying Uwe Boll is arguably a better filmmaker than John Hughes.

Khuutra - I really don't think that the thread title comes off the way that it is supposed to. "well-known" does not necessarily need to mean sales as far as I understood the thread. I thought it meant in terms of the game being an amazing JRPG. A nice fat portion of people who played FF7 call it the best game ever made or the best RPG ever made at least....you don't really see this with the pokemon games. I think critical reception and a cult following (case could be made for pokemon) play in as a factor too.

If we are talking in terms of sheer sales than pokemon games sell more based on the TV show than actually being amazing games imo. They def. do stomp all over other RPG(s) sales though.

There is. It's called Pokemon.

so once again is this based on saled or recognition?

or some unmeasurable third quality like "deepness" or "how many people say its the best game ever"?

is this whole thread just a circlejerk for FF7 fans or what

Everyday I'm hustlin'.

lol yea ff7 was a better game

cloud was so deep and cool man the hair lol it was awesome and i cried so much when aeris died man even though you only knew her for 20 percent of the game if that and she sucked as a party member anyway

yea id say ff7 is better than pokemon but im not a 12 year old girl so pokemon is better

lol yeah pokemon was a better game.

Ash/red/yellow(whatever the stupid name u call him) is so deep, he doesnt speak, and his hat, and his bike, HE IS A 10 YEAR OLD KID THAT TRAVELS ALONE OMG!!! I cried so much the 11nth time I fought Team Rocket. OMG you can breed pokemon and have 130 of the 151 pokemon so I have to buy the other version or make my friends get it so I can have all the pokemon. It was so fun after 10 years when I got to choose again one of 3 pokemon and beat the gym leader and win the pokemon league in every game, thats so FUN!!!!

I say FF7 is better and Im a 18 year old guy, and I liked Pokemon when I was 9.

So you're dismissing the game as a JRPG because its quality?

I never said it wasnt a JRPG

So you're saying it's not as WELL-KNOWN(not saying influential here) because of its quality?

Well in the post I was just arguing to DK something that FF7 is better than pokemon. But what I tried to say in almost all of my posts is that even though pokemon has more sales, has an anime, and trading cards it wont be remembered the way people remember FF7, it didnt only have great sales, there is also a lot of people who consider it the best RPG or game that ever existed, a status it shares with games like Oot and that no other RPG has achieved. That.

No it isn't. Uwe Boll movies are all box-office and critical failures. FFVII did well on both.

I know you probably can't deal with it, but FFVII is not only a more popular game, but it is still regarded by most as a better game. No ammount of bashing on it will ever change that.

Uwe Boll makes a solid profit on just about every movie (mostly because his production costs are heavily subsidized).

FFVII is regarded as a better game?  By who?  By the imaginary public you just generalized out of your arse?

The series started as a game and then became the other merchandise.  If the TV show and Trading Card Game helped the sales of the game itself than isn't more credit due to the games rather than their byproducts?

If we're talking in terms of quality and legacy there are several JRPGs that stomp all over FF7.

Pokemon is more well-known.

Pokemon influenced the entire handheld RPG market in ways that no other RPG before it did, changing the very nature of how the game was played and designed.

FF7 isn't even in the top five best games in its own series, much less JRPGs of all time.

All of these metrics are metrics by which a very good argument could be made that FF7 has already been surpassed.
