Star Ocean 4 has my least favorite soundtrack of all the Star Oceans. Even the remixes from the older games are a little weak...which is amazing because I like Sakuraba's rearrangements on their official Arrange Albums compared to the actual remixes presented in SO4.

But Vesperia is not a good example to use for contrast because it's battle theme is weak and mediocre for a Tales game.

Sakuraba is a JRPG music god but I think they're starting to wear into him. He needs to go back to his SO1/2 style for SO5.

I know your love for the Star Ocean series has clouded your judgement and Sakaraba is a decent enough composer but JRPG music god is kinda overdoing it.  He isn't known for consistently excellent and memorable soundtracks like Nobuo Uematsu and Yasunori Mitsuda are.

Are you speaking from experience or are you parroting other people's opinions as fact again?

Yeah, that's what I thought. Sakuraba is a god. Star Ocean, Tales, Baten Kaitos, Smash Bros Brawl, Valkyrie Profile >>>>>>>> You.

I can assure you I have listened to Sakaraba's music enough to form a fair opinion.

I was talking about in reference to Uematsu and Mitsuda. Uematsu is overrated and I'm not entirely convinced that you've ever played a game with a Mitsuda soundtrack.

I have played Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross and even heard some of the music from other game Mitsuda worked on.

I don't believe you. I can't trust your opinion after your past antics on this forum.

Reining this thread back into it's topic. The debate still lies how come Star Ocean 4 has such a forgettable, and even at times. Non-existent soundtrack?

One may argue, that with gameplay you can ignore the soundtrack. Not in a JRPG though I'm afraid, let's face it. While your staring at your TV two senses are being used. Sight and Sound. Therefor, Graphics and Soundtracks make a important part of the foundation that is gaming.

Therefor, in my opinion the lack of a proper musical score is a huge hindrance in star ocean 4's overall experience and feels like a step-backwards to the JRPG genre as a whole, a genre that's already struggling to keep up with it's western competition.

Why must JRPG female leads suck so bad?

EDIT: Actually, I take back what I said about Sakuraba being worn out because I think the Valkyrie Profile DS battle theme (slightly arranged) shits all over SO4's and Vesperia's.

Awesome!!! DAMN!! VP-DS > SO4 & ToV Easy.

Gotta get that game when i pick up a DS. :D

Tasty, but these soundtracks just go to prove a point. Sakuraba is not getting worn out, if anything he may be at a all-time best (highly debatable. I know). So why is it that star ocean has such miserable direction when it comes to it's soundtrack?

Why must JRPG female leads suck so bad?

Well i didnt mean ">" in terms of game quality, oh HELL NO, but as for as the regular battle theme goes, yeah.

And i also agree with you while im at it Night, SO4's Normal battle theme music seems...... i dunno lazy?

Even Till the end of Time and Valkryie Profile 2: Silmeria had better B-Theme music. :/

Well Nobuo Uematsu said his favorite composer is Sakuraba, so he must be really good. Anyway I always like his music in Tales, Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean.

@Riachu: You forgot to mention Sugiyama.

I can't find a youtube clip or anything for it. But the second battle-theme feels even lazier. Doesn't even have that pumping up first start. It actually sorta makes battles feel boring.
