Forums - Microsoft - Disk Swapping on Xbox 360 a Problem?

I stand on my position that if Naughty Dog did it, and Guerrilla did it, and I never encountered a single texture pop-in in KZ2 that has multi-GB levels, then the problem is more likely to be on the developers' side than on hardware limitations.

 No they just have a 2 second install every 2 min in game that causes a hiccup that to me was more annoying that watching snake smoke.

1.Not all games can have no installs especally with the BR.

2.Installs nor disc swapping dont matter,Honestly people dont care about them,except the paranoid fanboys.

That's quite an unexpected turn. Let me quote from a few pages back in this very thread:

Installs subtract from gameplay as well,not to mention it kills the hype,and can ruin an entire game."

He is a fanboy.

Disk swapping is not a big deal whatsoever. 360 is going on it's 4th year and I don't see it's sales hurting whatsoever because of "disk swapping".....do any of you?

I, however, do see PS3 sales/profits hurting because of the price of the Blu-Ray player incorporated in the PS3. Considering the most popular/highest selling games are 1 disk on both HD platforms, this issue doesn't seem to be as big a deal as "some" are making it out to be.

Oh, and the Wii is the highest selling console, with.......ohhh....wait for it.......a DVD drive!!

@shock182
I respect your opinion. For me, not being able to freely go back to a previous chapter without waiting those couple of minutes of HDD activity in MGS4 was infinitely worse. With a lesser game, it might have been a game breaker for me.
Frankly I think that a couple hiccups in an empty corridor or staircase in KZ2 are much less of a problem than the loading times of say HL2, regarded as a masterpiece of the genre.

@TheTruthHurts!
Indeed, the Wii is the proof that a console can sell alot, its technical shortcomings notwithstanding. That doesn't mean that a single gamer can't recognize those shortcomings or take them into account when, say, choosing which version of a multiplatform game to buy. To this gamer disc swaps are an annoyance, console sales are irrelevant.

Funny how games coming on multiple cds or dvds weren't a problem for the vast majority of people who owned a the PS1 and PS2 but suddenly it's a big deal now for some. Also it's funny how suddenly for some of those people technology is everything yet when the PS1 and PS2 were weaker but suddenly it's very important to them now.

Also as for the added content, it's a pipe dream since some companies are already having financial problems with current HD development. The thought of even a few more companies making HD games and spending a lot more on development to fill up a Blu-Ray disc is ridiculous.

(sigh... more fud)

Different time, different context.  During the PSOne days, it was either CD's (PSOne, Saturn) or carts (N64).  The better choice was carts.  Last gen DVD's were the best you can get.  Now, Blu-ray has the storage advantage over Blu-ray. There is a history and context to be considered before you start making false statment by taking things out of context.  Also, no one is forcing developers to fill up an entire Blu-ray Disc.  How it does help is that developers don't have to spend the time and resources to properly see which data is needed on multiple disc.  Again, please do not make false statment by taking things out of context, and stop being so hateful.

My problem is that I equate those hiccups to my kids running in the room while I am into a game and jumping on my lap, or the wife running in front of the TV ect… It flat out pisses me off and totally breaks the continuity.  They did not always seem to happen in empty hallways either.

If I am focused on something, I like to keep it that way. That was my problem with KZ2’s “lack of HDD load”. I would have actually liked it more if they increased the between level load time by a minute or 2 and cut out the mini loads.

It's Sony Selective Memory Syndrome or SSMS. When Sony does something it's fine, its only an issue when I competitor does it. PS3 Fanboys have been exibiting this for years now.

@D21Lewis

Excellent point on the Dualshock controller. That design blew when it was on PS1. Here we are 13 years later and Sony still has the the same controller.

Your post proves you're an anti-SONY fanboy because you too have Selective Memory Syndrome.  Very hypocritical.  See my last post for more info.

Indeed.

And @Legend11: if you're worried about costs for developers, know that spanning your game on multiple DVDs will rack up licence costs. Again, look for that John Carmack interview, where he talked about needing 3 DVDs for Rage on 360, but settling on 2 and lowering the texture resolution because of the licencing costs MS asks per disc.
