We have it worse here in the US. We pay the taxes for all the day laborers that stand around at 7-11.

Why? Because they had to buy their own DS's?

If I were one of those kids, I'd be playing games on my DS the moment I had the chance. 
Associating Nintendo with schoolwork is just plain evil anyway.

I don't see any difference between this and giving students laptops--they're giving them educational software, after all.
I've been waiting for a while now for the hardcover textbook to die. This has got to be a step in the right direction.
