Microsoft are pushing their DD service and Netflix, they won't go BluRay. SO HDDVD is the perfect option for them, as long as it plays DVDs, thats all microsoft needs, it doesnt matter if its a failed format or not. HD-DVD was comparable to BluRay in regards to what it could do. HD-DVD will be cheaper now too. As for DVD dead in 2012 ... I highly doubt it.

HD-DVD could only hold 20 gigs of shit, blu-ray 50, also the blu-ray can move information faster at the same speed laser.
Well since the world ends in 2012 (yeah right...) I hope it's before then.
I would say we start hearing about at E3 in 2010 and it launches in 2011.
What I said in another thread....
2009 Halo:ODST, but in reality they need to make it bigger then they have let out. So I think we will see something else this year. Perfect Dark 2 would be good here.
2010 Gears of War 3. Every 2 year timeframe this generation.
2011 New Bungie IP
2012 Halo 4 on NextBox
Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
Fall of 2012 or 2011. I'm gonna go with 2012.
Why? MS still has ground to make up for their debt, IE all the money they bled with the original XBox, and probably also want to make sure their next system doesn't suffer RROD.
It's just that simple.
But they could just realese a exclusive media for gaming, just like Sega did with DC GD disc. A optimized for gaming HD-DVD disk with high transfer data speed and 50 gb of space(yes, hd-dvd can hadle it). Or even make a partner with Toshiba again to realese their Super Sd cards with 100gb of data, it could even make the system cheaper, flash card transfer is much higher than optical media, and the reader is cheaper too, a card with 100 gb and a game with 30 gb and the free space for downlodable content especific for the game. Probably they would want the system to don't cost more than 300$ in the realese date, and would be good bundling from the begining, just like puting Halo 4 bundled with the system, just like wii sports now.
I hope sometime in 2011 or 2012 if Microsoft was smart. The 360 is doing extremely well, we just need to see more creativity with games. Once that happens, then Microsoft can then release another console that can bring something new to the market.
The real answer:
Never.
The next move for MS will be a prepackaged Windows "livingroom PC", that you cannot crack open and fiddle with, much like Dell's "cute" mini PCs. MS was never about games. They were always about taking the PC-ness of the livingroom console and making it their own.
Once they establish themselves as a serious livingroom contender (as they have nearly completed doing), they'll hit the PC and console market with the same product, and cement Windows and Office in place, as well as "Games for Windows 7", for the next couple decades, with no fear of Sony/Nintendo outing Windows PCs as the primary browsing, etc. utility of the home.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if said prepackaged livingroom PC had BC for the 360, either.
In a sense, the "next box" will merely be a replacement for your PC. And, like with Vista, MS will try to force everyone to upgrade, by not updating XP, Vista, etc. with the latest software technologies, but providing it on the "NextBox", or spendy licensed, proprietary PC-maker PCs, only. Dell, Gateway, etc... onboard with that -- no homemade PCs? hells yeah for them.
What better way to combat OS piracy, than to effectively disallow people from making PCs capable of running the latest OS? PC checkmate. And who needs a home console, when your home PC has HDMI/Component out, and plays premade console-style titles, as well as runs IExplorer (and no other browser), and MS Word (and no other competing office products)?
Probably November 2010 or 2011. I think M$ is gonna go for profitabilty so they might release it later than sooner but also i think they might release it in 2010 because theyre going to want to release first next gen and cut sonys profitibility and squeeze them for every penny they have
Long Live SHIO!
