You, as a person who frequents forums and loves JRPG's, may have thought the game was awesome because it's an RPG made by Factor-5 but people who frequent internet forums and people who love RPG's are not the majority.

So that explains why a (relatively) small number of people hyped the game but that doesn't explain why it's actually hyped other than it's a PS3 exclusive.

 

Game is from Level 5 not Factor 5. Level 5 have proven they are good devs with Dark Cloud, Jeanne d'Arc, and a few more jrpg that show they know what they're doing most of the time. Only reason the game was hyped at all was because it was meant for a Ps3 launch release and is a JRPG from well known devs. Ps3 exclusive or not this game would be hyped for either console probably.

I was excited because of the fantasy setting and the fact it's made by Level 5.

Typo, my mistake but I'm still standing by the same thing.

JRPG nuts are a very small percentage of the gaming population, the game was only hyped because it was a PS3 exclusive.  And I agree it would probably be hyped if it was an Xbox 360 exclusive too, though not to the same extent.

I myself will buy any game made by Blizzard, Naugthy Dog, Team Ico, Sucker Punch and of course Double Fine (or just Tim Schafer in general). The reason? Simply because none of these team have ever made anything that's below awesome in the quality department. Some people will have the same view on Level 5 (I don't though), and would anticipate (or "hype" as it's called here) the game accordingly.

It has nothing to do with it being a PS3 exclusive, but just being on the PS3, the console is starving for JRPGs... And the fact that it's made by Level 5 is more then likely the biggest reason why it's aniticipated so much...

People who constantly frequent forums and read news sites aren't nearly as large of the audience as you think they are, they are a pretty small percentage of the entire gaming population and then people who are fans of JRPG's are an even smaller subset of that.

So again, if JRPG fans are a small subset of a small subset of total gamers, why would this game be majorly hyped because it's a JRPG? 

That doesn't make sense, it makes much more sense to say this game is hyped because it is a PS3 exclusive and it's pretty.

@twestern: Maybe because HD JRPGs have not been good enough? There´s not a single AAA JRPG so far on them, except Valkyria Chronicles which is a SRPG and had zero advertisements.

Actually I was saying that the internet is small, and that the JRPG fanbase is larger then the gamers that go on interntet.

Besides, it's not really that hyped, it's just a small group that are loudmouthed.
