And before people flip out, I'm not saying the game is good or bad, you just can't deny this game was originally hyped because it was an early PS3 exclusive that looked pretty and nothing else.

No, the first trailer just looked awesome, and after the second CGI trailer most of us where totally hyped by it, then we saw the first actual gameplay during the TGS07 and some started to have there doubts about it. Then they announced the online mode a couple of months before the release, and a lot of people started to think that this perhaps wouldn't be that epic RPG that we where expecting. The Famitsu review did also hurt the hype.

You, as a person who frequents forums and loves JRPG's, may have thought the game was awesome because it's an RPG made by Factor-5 but people who frequent internet forums and people who love RPG's are not the majority.
So that explains why a (relatively) small number of people hyped the game but that doesn't explain why it's actually hyped other than it's a PS3 exclusive.

Game is from Level 5 not Factor 5. Level 5 have proven they are good devs with Dark Cloud, Jeanne d'Arc, and a few more jrpg that show they know what they're doing most of the time. Only reason the game was hyped at all was because it was meant for a Ps3 launch release and is a JRPG from well known devs. Ps3 exclusive or not this game would be hyped for either console probably.
