selnor, gears 2 cutscence are not real time but record with the engine i think epic confirms this a while ago not all are but many are.
the only pre recorded cut scene (where the awesome zoom feature it's not enabled) its at the end of Arc 3.
and the texture work it's so good you can zoom all the way and the texture still looks tight as ever.
like Killzone 2 intro where visari is speaking. no CGI work but record with the engine into a movie file too
it's normal with the lastest games.
The reason this is in the Sony forums, is so that the OP doesn't have to deal with too many reasonable people dealing out liberal doses of truth.
starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

In the sense that he puts it, yes, he fails. But if Halo 3 is what pops up when you search for best graphics, then the internet fails also

| selnor said: MikeB if I was to compare the to flagship titles of both HD consoles for graphics, I'd rate like this. Bearing in mind this is based of visual representation and not how technical it was to achieve the result. Animation = KZ2 Textures = Gears 2 Lighting = Gears 2 (sorry) Visual effects = KZ2 Then I would break it down further. Breakable sceneary = Gears 2 Amount on screen = Gears 2 water = Gears 2 The funny thing is KZ2 I think looks slightly better overall. Why. Purely because the effects and animation are so good, it lends the game to looking great in motion. But then theres also the point of how can we compare the 2? Epic have said time and time again in development they are not striving for photorealism becasue that is not the art style of the game. Evident in overly bulky characters to boot. But on the other hand it's obvious that KZ2 is aiming for photorealism easily visible through the near perfect animation. You may say about HDR on PS3. Personally HDR and LDR is evidently the best in Halo 3. That game is abundant with it to the point of having 2 seperate frame buffers 1 for each. (the only console to use 2 buffers as well). Again people complain about Halo 3 graphics. God thank that Bungie didnt listen to these people. The art direction called for the graphics to be that way. And as Ive said 4 player split screen Halo 3 Campaign was what the fans wanted. The engine had to do that smoothly. Like I said visually on screen what we see is important. Not how the dev got there. |
Nowadays, every PS3 thread ends with KZ2 vs. Gears 2, so I've come to expect this. But if you give lighting to Gears, I'd have to tell you to slap yourself. That's just silly....

Sorry bro. It's only my opinion. Reason is, purely because the actual best graphical WOW moment for me still belongs to Gears 2. The first time you see the underground cave levels. The lighting down there is in a league of it's own. But thats that. :)

My point was that Gears 2 is no different than MGS4 or Uncharted or KZ2 (apart from the very first cutscene in KZ2.)
They all use the actual game engine but are pre animated and so on. higher textures are added blah blah blah. I was pointing out to MikeB though that his comment was a false claim. I provided evidence that Gears 2 regularly seamlessly goes from cutscene to game without changing. The game is close in awesomeness to the cutscene graphics. Fighting the boss in the underground lake is testament to that. That has to be the best ever texture work in ANY console game for awhile.
Cutscene

Ingame playing

The above is the best lighting Ive ever seen. moving it's amazing. But again it's opinion. See what I mean for the difference between cutscene and gameplay. Pretty close.
you need to play killzone 2, because it looks better than gears.
they are more amount of enemies in multiplayer
and everything is breakable that isn't metal, maps like radec academy and the river are sick.
the walls you see broken at the beginning of the match they were not and they break with physics affecting how they break.
here are some pics i could only find some lousy JPGs =(

and indoors there is still sick realistic lighting and really great metal shaders.

and it looks much better moving.
and here more pics if you want to see.
and this multiplayer map lighting is CRAZY.

watch in HD beautiful.
IGN favoured the Xbox360 version of Resident Evil.
Damn you MS, you are paying IGN, Eurogamer and Gamespot!!!
GTA IV had a higher resolution on the Xbox360 with no install, just wanted to add this.
Imagine not having GamePass on your console...
2009 still talking about this, I would say WHO CARES, but 10 pages of posts mean some people do. PS3/360 graphics are close enough that NO ONE is choosing one system over another for graphics.
PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.
Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game
