Forums - Nintendo - Interview: Miyamoto was sad for being like the other companies

Well.... kinda interesting, maybe this explain a lot for all

"There was an era when Nintendo was going in the direction of doing the same things other companies did," Miyamoto told Kato. "The more we competed with new companies entering the market, the more we started acting similar to them. But is being number one in that competition the same as being number one with the general public? That's the question we had. Entertainment is something that you have to look at the world with a very wide eye as you create it. I always thought that, but there were a few years where I was unable to get off other people's trends. It was a dilemma in my mind."

Yep, Miyamoto has the right answer for all the people that have 2 years complaining about the hardcore/casual thing.

what a good man

lol yeah the N64 era and the GameCube era's were like the Borg invaded the starship. Nintendo couldn't find their identity.

...Although it wasn't a necessarily bad thing as some of the games that were release for the N64 to this day are considered classics. =p

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?

That man is so down-to-earth. The Gamecube, technically, was pretty much interchangeable with a PS2 or Xbox--there was nothing it really did that set it apart. The PS2 played DVDs and had decent online, whereas the Xbox had phenomenal online. Gamecube was sort of just an awkward 'also-ran' in that respect. It was pretty obvious that they felt they were in an awkward situation, too.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

I love Miyamoto - one of the truly great visionaries went in comes to this industry. He keeps things interesting since you never know what he's going to come up with next.

now we know why Mario Sunshine doesn't stand out as other main Mario games cause Miyamoto was sad! A happy Miyamoto makes great games!

I like my little purple box though... it's small and portable... ;)

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Actually, he doesn't say when the era was and the way he says "there was an era" makes me think that he means a long time ago and maybe a time people have forgot about. It's possible he's talking about SNES versus Genesis imo instead of 6th gen.

Heavens to Murgatoids.

"This is a job where you have a plan and you polish it endlessly while getting help from others. If Nintendo's games fail to stand out as games that aren't made that way proliferate, then it shows that the creation process is for nothing, which made me very sad. That was especially obvious during the GameCube era; Nintendo titles were hardly even discussed by the [non-gaming] general public back then."

What is interesting are those who are responding in the 1up forum who think they know more about the subject the Miyamoto.

Silly fanboys.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.
